We were lucky to catch up with Tatianna Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.

Tatianna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?

The year of 2017 I started my first business selling hair extensions and wigs. Selling hair and wigs really taught me a lot as being my own boss and running my own business from dealing with customers , packing and shipping orders myself, making sure that all customers are satisfied, to investing funds, testing products and different vendors and so much more. With starting my very first business it also taught me that it isn’t all so easy and there are some wins and losses. After my first business with hair , i took it upon myself to get further into the beauty industry. Scrolling TikTok and lash extensions kept popping up for me on my newsfeed. It looked so easy to do so i took it upon myself to invest in a $600 certified lash course. I learned both volume and classic lash extensions during a two day class. It wasn’t so easy as it looked on tiktok after all. I went home and practiced on my friends where i wanted to give up because i just felt like i couldn’t do it . But having a great support and motivating team around me, they told me not to give up and at least make my money back from what i invested into learning and taking the class. Therefore, i started lashing outside of my own home charging on $50 per client to let me practice on . The more clients , the more practice , the better i became at lashes. It was to the point i started getting clients back to back and couldn’t keep up . It’s very IMPORTANT to get licensed in the state to perform the service . Even though i took a certified class, i wanted to be licensed as well. I located an esthetician school in my area “The Chrysm of Esthetics” and enrolled. There i learned not only lash extensions, but also facials , waxing and makeup . I then took a skateboards test and became licensed in the beauty industry NOW performing more services and adding under my business belt. I currently service out of my own beauty suite and have 4-5 clients per day with making my own schedule. They key is to keep going , you have to really want to do whatever you’re passionate in and don’t give up!

Hello , my name is Tatianna . I go by Tianna . I am a 27 year old licensed esthetician and business owner located in Virginia Beach, Virginia . I am a mother of 2. Getting into the entrepreneur field has been the best decision I’ve feel like I’ve ever made. It does have its pros and cons as it taught me that you won’t be able to satisfy everyone. I most of proud of myself for going to school as a mother , while also working a 9-5 at the time and sticking to what i was most passionate about which is the beauty Industry and doing lash extensions. It taught me that i can do whatever i put my mind to.

How did you build your audience on social media?

The key to building your audience on social media is to be CONSISTENT! Being consistent is very important. Social media in these days play a big part. Your audience want to see you posting your work , your sale (people love deals and sales) , what you do and offer for your services , etc. You don’t want to leave your audience blind sided. I would say post at least 3 post a day. Also , to use all platforms. There’s customers and potential customers on every platform. Utilize it!!

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

I started my business from scratch and funded my business by saving from my 9-5 job working for a call center remotely at home. Once you start your business you can also look into other funding like loans and building your business credit for credit cards and more. Credit is important not just for yourself but for your business as well. Keep in mind also, you have to spend money to make money.
