We were lucky to catch up with Tatiana Tsoir recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatiana, thanks for joining us today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
My best investment has turned out to be in myself, in my self development and growth. And I am not talking about meditations or yoga or pilates, none of that. I am talking about being the best person in the world for me to bet on.
By 2018 I was building my own firm, about six years into it. I was barely making enough for our family to survive given two adult paychecks. I have over 100 clients who paid for the tax return for the year and reached out with quick questions, and were given quick answers, a disservice to both sides.
In 2018 I was a runner up, 1 of 3 in the US and 1 of 15 in the world, at the Intuit’s Firm of the Future contest. When I got the news, I realized that I’m capable of so much more. That year I signed up for 2 trainings: proactive tax reduction technical training and also business coaching. It was about 10% of my annual income and it was a significant amount. But I realized that if I don’t bet on myself, no one else will . And I didn’t look back. I got my 4x return on investment via a 60k a year client within 5 months. Within 3 years I quadrupled my revenue, tripled my profit and started working 2 days a week off season (vs previous 5 -6 days a week). And the rest is history.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Since I was 14, I wanted to be a lawyer, it’s all I could think about. I even went to law school for about 2 years (out of a five-year program). When I came to the US, I realized that law is a graduate program and I needed my Bachelor’s first. When the time came to pick a major in college, I was already working as a bookkeeper’s assistant and was hungry for knowledge. And since I needed to support myself financially through college and then law school, I picked accounting since it was a skill versus just a degree. In every class professors of Hunter College “brainwashed us” when they said “If you’re majoring in accounting, you might as well sit for the CPA exam” and I thought “Hm, I might as well!”.
Every day I learned theory at night and it came alive at work the next day. It was an instant connection of theory and practice and somewhere in between I fell in love with small businesses.
Now I run a progressive business advisory firm rooted in accurate and timely numbers and compliance (accounting and tax), and every piece of advice we give a client go through a lens of proactive tax reduction.
We are a concierge firm, one home, one place for someone who has at least one business (most of our clients have multiple). We solve any problem, really. The most favorite thing clients love to hear from us is “we’ll take care of it”.
At Linza Advisors, we’ll take care of it and we’ll take care of you. Period.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Integrity and commitment to excellence, always. We get referrals like “Tatiana and her team accomplished more for us in two months that 5 accountants in the previous 13 years!” and “I wish we have gotten the fractional CFO service 6 months before we did. It allowed us to get better at cash flow management, a critical skill for every business owner!” That’s the best strategy for us to grow. We under promise and over deliver, and always hold our quality standards high.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Reading in general has impacted my management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy. Also a business coach, who said that we’re not in business of accounting or tax or anything like that. He said that we are in business of building life-long relationships. And that stuck with me.
In 2021 I released a book that took me about a year and a half to write, edit and publish. While writing it I started reading a lot more and I realized that I couldn’t be a writer without being a reader first. Since then I’ve read 25-30 books per year, business books primarily or self development or self growth. I have also completed a degree in Gestalt psychology which allowed me insight into myself and also into my clients. I saw clearly how everything they go through in their lives impacts their business, and this has allowed me to help clients better, too. it’s been quite an amazing journey.
