Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tati Clanton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tati, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The first time I knew I wanted to be a creative was when I was a senior in high school. When I was in high school YouTube was a huge thing! I was obsessed with the makeup gurus such as Jackie Aina, Jordan Lipscomb, Patrick Star, Desi Perkins, etc. etc. These creatives inspired me to falling in love with makeup and the beauty space. Then,I would watch vlogs and lifestyle content and story times. I would watch all theses amazing content creators and be mesmerized how people are being themselves in a creative way. As time went by I would focus on little things such as the aesthetics, fonts, music choice in their videos, and many more. I realize that now this is art and it’s creators telling their story. I loved that and wanted to do that. So in the summer of 2014 I decided to take my android phone and make my first YouTube video of me telling a story time . It actually did pretty well my first time and ever since then I got hooked ! I slowly started taking it seriously and would post videos in my dorm room, my freshman year of college and edit on my phone. I did not care what people make say or think I just loved it! Then it dawned on me that I was so passionate about this that I can see me being a creative as a part of me. Throughout the years I would have my ups and downs and would not be consistent, but I still held that passion within me. It was almost a year ago that I took it very seriously and the fruit of my labor is definitely prospering. I am now working with brands in the beauty space and I am only getting started. People say you should do what you love and that is what I am doing.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those who do not know me, my name is Tatianna Clanton and I am a UGC creator/content creator. If you do not know what UGC means, it means “user generated content “, so basically instead of brands creating traditional advertisement for their own products or services they would reach out to individuals like me who use their products or service. User-generated content (UGC) is any content made by people like me , a customer lookalike, rather than the brand itself. This includes Instagram stories about new purchases, TikTok posts sharing product experiences. UGC is authentic content created by individuals about their experiences with a brand. This content normally offers a real and genuine perspective amidst traditional advertising. I also create beauty, fashion, and lifestyle videos as well, that is authentic to me. I show my followers that are like me , my actual experiences in life. With that being said I do not always work with brands , I also post content that I inspire to show from my day to day experiences. I am proud to say that I have worked with more than 50 brands or more ,but I am more proud that I can create content that be relatable to people just like me and that I can create a community. I am a black American woman creating content, people sometimes say content creation is very saturated , but I do not believe that is the case. I represent the minority in this content space. More women like me are stepping out to become creatives as well and I wanted to be a part of it. There are very few women like me that are successful in this space and I would love to invest and change that narrative. Becoming a creative is not easy, but when you love something it does not matter . Success will naturally follow as long as you believe in yourself and embody that.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
This question is interesting to me because I asked the very same question . People would be surprised to know that the answer is simple. First ask yourself, why you want to do this and what difference can you make? Mine was simple, I love that I can be creative and be authentically myself but show people that I can also do this and use my voice and present positivity and realness into this space. Next, all you have to do is take those passions and start posting your content. I just started posting and that is how I got my got my foot out the door. Now as far as how I built an audience, I will say authenticity and consistently is key. I will be honest , consistency were one of my challenges because sometimes life gets in the way or I experience burnout. However , if you consistently show up and keep posting that content , people will notice. It’s also good to talk to your audience and show them your personality , I notice my audience loves that and I engage with them. Engagement is more important than the following. It’s all about quality instead of quantity. Engage , engage, engage! Post the video and you will be on your way .

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is that you can touch the peoples heart by just being you . Whether that be one or ten people. It’s also rewarding that you can be a positive representative that people can go to. Social media can get dark sometimes so it’s good to always be that comfort creative for my audience when someone may need it.
