We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tate Ellington. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tate below.
Alright, Tate thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
I work at my gallery and the retail shop up front and I’ve learned so much, not only with the sales part but also the community aspect of it and strong relationships between the artists and the patrons. People who have purchased a piece from the gallery before will always come back and will ask for new works from that same artist. I’ve also become more of an admirer of the work verses making it myself, it’s just fun to learn from other creatives in the community, get inspired and also learning the backbone of a gallery.
Tate, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Tate! I’m a painter. A mom. Daydreamer. I started about five years ago when I took up watercolor painting and began renderings of landmarks around the city of Savannah and then a few businesses began to request paintings. From there, I’ve experimented with different themes and series, but all have had a hint of my watercolor and acrylic style which I think is a bit whimsical, a bit chaotic, and never shy of color. I sell originals, prints, and cards and other painted mediums.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’m trying to figure that out right now. I want to paint and create what inspires me and in some way inspire others by being original yet relatable, you know? I guess that’s every artists’ dilemma. I also love working on the other side of it, working for the gallery. I would love to learn more.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I guess being able to see almost every thing and every opportunity as a work of art. You can get creative in almost any situation. I feel like creativity is an important life skill. It can provide solutions to problems and bring dreams to life.
