We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tate Cooper. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tate below.
Tate, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Rooted Bliss Interiors was just a dream of a job at first, it took me time to really believe that I could do it and that I wasn’t crazy for starting my own business at 23. My love for design comes from my experience in Real Estate and a passion I am still learning so much about.
In Real Estate I learned some very invaluable lessons, from how to work with customers to how staging and design can impact the way you *feel* in a house. In Real Estate, staging can be a make or break for a house selling because it allows the potential home buyers to truly imagine themselves living in that home. When I finally joined my mom in the real estate world, some family members had a Money Tree plant delivered to our office as a good luck gesture, I took it upon myself to make sure that thing was going to live and be taken care of. As any plant parent can tell you, once you learn to take care of one plant they somehow multiply and you are suddenly taking care of a room full, learning everything they need to be happy. This sprouted my love for plants and really bridged the connection of designing spaces that are cohesive with design and life. Which is exactly what Interior Plant Design represents, evidence based design. The benefits of having plants in your homes, offices, salons, etc. far exceed just the aesthetics.
I was filled with all this knowledge and passion but still wasn’t sure what it meant. Would people really be interested in having a service that provided the knowledge, install and maintenance of plants? I couldn’t be sure but knew I had to at least try. After months of creating my own brand, curating the specifics and the continuous support from my fiance and family I knew what I had was special and worth sharing. In February of 2024 I finally launched Rooted Bliss Interiors LLC. This journey has been hard, rewarding, confusing and at all times out of my comfort zone. Because of those emotions I carry with it I know it is important. Creating this opportunity for myself has been nothing short of challenging and such a great experience to get to know more about myself and how I handle those challenges.
As I am still in the first year of Rooted Bliss Interiors, I will not lie and say I have it all figured out. I am still learning so many new things on how to run a business. What keeps me going is my passion for the growth of my business and trusting the decisions I make now will impact the future.
Overall, the idea of Rooted Bliss Interiors was a calling that I finally gave life to. I know that having a curated space made with plants is a desire that not every person has the time or green thumb for. The love of having plants should not be exclusive to only those with the time and green thumb for it. Rooted Bliss Interiors is the solution to that.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Tate Cooper, I’m a Kansas City local Realtor who took the passion of design/staging and combined that with my love for plants to create Rooted Bliss Interiors. Rooted Bliss Interiors is a unique service that covers many bases, all of which involve plants! I offer a service that provides the planning, install, and maintenance of plants in businesses, salons, and even your home. Although, services don’t stop there. I have not forgotten where I came from- I also offer plant staging for open houses to help clients imagine life in their potential new home. While this is where the focus lies for Rooted Bliss Interiors, I have been dipping my toes into offering plant bars at baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties, weddings, etc.
My base goal is to ultimately help people who love the benefits and look of plants but don’t know how or maybe don’t have the time to take care of them. Interior Plant Design is an evidence based form of design that takes the physical benefits of plants, such as better air quality, improved mood and productivity, plus many more physical advantages and transforms that into an outlet of design. I am so proud of this work because it is a benefit that everyone can take advantage of to improve their lives and spaces.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I have goals for different areas of my career and life that have intertwined. A goal of mine that I had before I started Rooted Bliss Interiors was to create opportunities for myself that were sustainable but didn’t strain my body. Having a chronic illness puts me in a different bubble than most people. 9-5’s at an office pose a serious threat to my health because of the strain and lack of exceptions in most corporate jobs. Because of this I wanted to find ways to be successful and not make myself miserable or end up in the hospital.
I have always been drawn to creating- photography, design, and then plants. I wanted to figure out how I could make this become my job. That’s when my goal of creating a business that combined helping people and getting to work with plants became clear to me.
As I’ve achieved that goal I have learned my mission- allowing people to love plants even if they’re intimidated by them. I noticed when I spoke to people about plant design they were either intrigued because they already loved plants as well or they were intrigued because they always wanted plants but “didn’t have a green thumb”. My mission with Rooted Bliss Interiors is to provide a service for people to express their style with plants in their homes, stores, salons, etc and not worry about the maintenance or that they “don’t have a green thumb”. Design and style build such confidence in people and their own lives.
My goal now is to be the local go-to for people who are ready to take that next step and incorporate plants into their every day lives!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of owning a creative business is that it is limitless with possibilities. There are so many ways to reach people and help them bring their own visions to fruition even if they don’t necessarily have the time or skills. I love learning new ways I can be creative in my design, my business options, etc. Providing a service that can help people in their homes, in their businesses, salons, or even providing a business that does bridal showers, weddings, baby showers is such a unique way that I get to be creative every day. I will never take for granted how lucky I am that I get to work in a field that allows creativity and health benefits. I am so excited to see how this business continues to push my creativity and the artistic interests of my clients as well.
