We recently connected with Tassiana Laurre and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tassiana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
One of the most impactful things my parents did was take the time to truly listen to both my sister and me. Their unwavering support, especially in a career path as distinct from their own as mine, has been invaluable.
Starting my design studio while still a student brought a unique set of challenges. There were moments of uncertainty and setbacks, but my parents consistently emphasized the importance of resilience and resourcefulness, and learning through trial and error. They taught me that mistakes are not failures but learning opportunities. Their unwavering support helped me navigate the complexities of starting a business, and they consistently reinforced their belief in my vision, even when things were difficult.
Their encouragement helped me navigate the ups and downs of running a business, allowing me to stay true to my passion for design. Knowing that I had their support, regardless of the outcome, gave me the confidence to take risks and learn from my experiences.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a French designer, based between Paris and Los Angeles. After studying at Strate, école de design, and Politecnico di Milano, where I earned her Master’s degree, and working for renowned designers such as Marc Ange and Kelly Wearstler, I moved to sunny Los Angeles to expand my studio.
I have worked on international projects in graphic, product, and interior design as well as art direction At the core of my practice is a progressive vision, constantly seeking new expressions through the latest technologies while being deeply rooted in an appreciation of craft, history, and context.
I am currently working on interior design projects, as well as producing my furniture pieces that I will be able to show soon.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I initially started doing graphic design back in late 2018 as a student. I was balancing my graphic design work alongside my studies, and as time went by I started getting bigger jobs, which allowed me to delve into product design and art direction.
My goal was to get into interior design as well, but I needed the skills, so I worked for various interior design company to build my skillset and understand the business.
I was contacted to design a private residence in the South of France. This was the perfect opportunity to integrate interior design to my business, and the residence was recently completed. It was a fantastic project and I loved every moment: seeing it go from a concept in my mind to reality was very rewarding.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
I’m currently in the process of manufacturing my furniture for the very first time. This was entirely new to me, and producing furniture can be tricky, I’m very specific about the final textures and finishes, it has to be exactly like I imagine it in my head.
I took my time interviewing vendors as I didn’t know the market, but after a few tries I found a vendor with whom I fit well and who could make my vision a reality, so I went with them.
It’s very important not to rush things, I will always chose a slightly delayed launch with a well-done product, than an accelerated launch with a product that doesn’t meet my own standards.
