Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tasia Mccauley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tasia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
I came back to social media (Instagram) in 2021, 4 years after having my daughter. So much had changed about the platform. I found myself in training, both as a new mother and learning the ins and outs of social media. I never thought that I could make money from this. I mean I saw people doing it…but me?! No way! This was just for fun. I’ve always enjoyed styling and wearing cute clothes so to post the outfits on IG was just “something to do.”
I learned how to make reels, and fun videos. I enjoyed styling budget friendly outfits all with an emphasis on my personal style being easy, minimal fashion. Again, this was just for fun…a creative outlet from the corporate world.
In December of 2022, I received an email from a brand that carried the same style of clothing that I was interested in. I had never purchased from them because it was out of my budget at the time. They wanted to gift some of their pieces to me. I was flattered…and shocked! I didn’t need to do anything but accept it. And I did!
Once I received the package, I thought about working with them for an actual partnership. So I took the risk of asking the management team and although that particular brand was not looking for partners at the time, another brand was and that company was Marc Fisher Shoes.
They were impressed by my style and quality and asked to partner with me for advertising a new sandal that was set to come out in the spring of 2023! I could not believe that I was actually going to get paid for doing what I love.
I had free creative will and although I had never worked with a brand in this way, in this capacity, the creative juices flowed. It was such a pleasure working with them.
I learned in that moment that you never know who is watching, and just to keep doing what you love!
Tasia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a content creator in the area of minimal style, my main goal is to encourage. No matter your size, race, or anything of that matter, my God given abilities to encourage and build you up is what I love to do! If you are inspired by my style, that is great, but I want you to want more than the latest look, I want you to have JOY!
I started off by just showing my OOTD (Outfit of the day) but that has grown into scripture reading, words of affirmation and building a community of women (and men) who not only look good but also love Jesus….and because of Him we feel good too!
My brand TrulyTasia showcases what is true to me. Faith, motherhood, style, wife life and so much more. It’s more than style, this is a lifestyle, A lifestyle curated by God and I am so grateful for it!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My current mission in this industry is to spread joy! I want my brand to be a breath of fresh air. Something you turn to to get away from the cares of the world. Spreading positivity and love, even if it’s through outfit inspiration.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson that I had to unlearn, and still working on is self doubt. If you asked me to do this 3 or 4 years ago, my response would’ve been no. Simply because I was not confident in myself. I was still learning who I was. Still trying to find myself and where I belonged in this industry. Whenever I saw the words“content creator” or “influencer” they were always followed by a large audience or big city living. I didn’t have that. I was a wife and mother living in St Louis, Missouri, which isn’t a fashion capital, simply trying to navigate home and finding her own creative space. I didn’t know exactly where I belonged and the act of comparison started to set in. It wasn’t until I started to study and be transformed by the Holy Bible to know where my true confidence relies.
Some days are better than others because I’m still human, but I am confident that I am right where I’m supposed to be at this very moment and also remembering that you never know who is watching you live life and enjoy it. We all have the capability to be what we want to see!
