Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tashia Stafford. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tashia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Charmed Visions was originally born out of my passion for creating vision boards. The problem was that I’d spend hours making a vision board, but it wasn’t practical to keep with me as a motivator and constant reminder of my goals (which is the whole point of having such a tool). I’d look at my vision board for a few minutes a day and then it would simply remain leaning against a wall collecting dust. After many years of this scenario, I set out to solve the problem of how to take my vision with me everywhere I went. It later evolved twofold because I was also passionate about covering my walls with pictures of friends and family. So I thought to myself, “How can I showcase my cherished memories outside of my home?” My previous approach to this endeavor often required me to scroll through hundreds of pictures on my phone in an effort to show someone a particular photo, but ultimately failing to find it. Boom! Charmed Visions solves both problems with its wearable vision boards and photo album bracelets.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Let me rewind. It all started with a vision. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and eventually moved to Atlanta to attend GSU. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in film/TV and music business. While in college, I interned at Sony Music. Unfortunately, they did not have a job opening approaching the time of my graduation. I started visualizing ways to introduce myself to a broader audience in the music industry to secure employment.
My job as an intern consisted of going to showcases and looking for talent. I often loathed attending these events because of how dreadfully disorganized the showcases were. And then it hit me: creating one of the best showcases ATL has ever seen would clearly put my organizational skills on display to the industry.
To accomplish this feat, I mapped out a vision and went straight to work—with no budget but boundless determination. I gave myself six months to realize my goal. By leveraging existing professional relationships, I was able to accomplish a resounding successful showcase. All my planning and efforts paid off in full. The executive director of Elektra Records happened to be at the event and was so impressed with it that he asked to interview me for the position of his full-time administrative assistant. After I’d worked for Elektra for about a year, my boss got fired and I was in turn let go. I didn’t like that feeling and decided right then and there that I didn’t want to ride the music industry employment roller coaster.
My next move was to form an administrative assistant servicing company called Enlight Entertainment Services, Inc. As a newly minted entrepreneur I was able to shift my journey into overdrive! I offered administrative assistant services to A-list music producers, working with some of the biggest names in the industry. I eventually hired two assistants to help with the care and maintenance of my growing enterprise. Being featured in Billboard Magazine and recognized by then-Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed as one of Atlanta’s “Powerprenuers” further burnished my brand. Soon I was providing A&R administrative services to artists like Justin Bieber, Akon, and Chris Brown. (www.enlight-ent.com)
Enter my next vision: Since a lot of what I did for my clients was book studio time, I thought to myself, “Why not build my own studio and pocket the dividends of those bookings directly?” Again, with zero budget, I set out to accomplish my new goal. Through relationships, the grace of God and a series of serendipitous events, my husband and I became the owners of one of the most elite recording studios in Midtown Atlanta. Throughout this entire process, I was obsessed with creating vision boards. In fact, my whole house basically ended up as one big vision board. When I became interested in starting another business focused on the journey of self-fulfillment, I thought to myself, “I got where I am by having a vision. So how can I help others formulate their vision and help raise the vibration of the entire planet at the same time?” Fast forward to 2021, and Charmed Visions was born. I developed an app for iPhone and Android along with a website through which users can create a vision board in minutes vs. hours and turn it into a wearable version. Being able to take your vision board with you wherever you go is a game changer. It helps you stay focused on your goals, serving as a constant reminder and inspiring you throughout your day. Any life journey is more fulfilling with vividly beautiful mile markers along the way.
