Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tashay Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tashay, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later?
If I could go back in time, I definitely would have started my business sooner. I was in High school when I first came up with the idea of selling hair, it was Me and my two sister who actually came up with the idea. but of course I was in high school with no money, My mom is a hairstylist so her clients would always ask her where to get good quality hair from and she would always say ” Ask the twins they’re always wearing hair” so that right there gave me the upper hand advantage of selling hair. Because my mom already had the client, so I finally graduated high school, Started working a 9-5 job to be able to purchased my first Inventory and that was in 2021 so here I am 1 year in business it’s going great so far but . If I started my business sooner, it would of been a lot easier because selling hair wasn’t so expensive back then. I remember a 14″ (inch) bundle use to be $30 now it’s 65+, also it wasn’t a lot of trends back then the ladies could get a basic sew-in and be happy, now it’s so many trends to keep up with and bundles are so much higher it’s so hard to keep up. so yes definitely without a doubt I would of started way sooner I wish I did start sooner but I didn’t and this is now so all I have to do now is keep moving forward and trust That God will do the rest.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Hello I am Tashay Taylor, I been in the hair business for a very long time my mom been a hairstylist for over 30 plus years so learning about hair came very natural to me. I used to find myself telling my friends about their hair and what products they should buy that would work good for their hair. I always been really big on hair care , I use to wear hair extensions a lot in high school and that’s when I discovered that I had a passion for all types of hair and hair extensions, I was so in love with hair extensions that i hated wearing my real hair. So, I turned a hobby into a business that I love and enjoy. Making women feel and look beautiful is my favorite thing about being in the hair industry all while still educating about their hair underneath. I know what’s sets me apart from most hair businesses is I seek to solve making women feel Amazing again by motivating them and ensuring them that weather their hair is broken off , damaged they are still beautiful and can have confidence in knowing that hair extensions is an enhancement and investment my slogan is ” invest in your hair you wear it every day” because literally you hair is the crown you never take off. so always be beautiful and bold have confidence in knowing that we as women are the greatest creation alive.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I wouldn’t say it’s a backstory on what I’m about to say. I would say it’s just facts, and one fact is I had to stop worrying about my family and friends to support my business they are not obligated to support my business and that is totally fine. it’s the strangers who makes us rich anyway. And I can honestly say that the strangers support and show me so much love I really appreciate it. so now that I got that out my head I know longer look at family for support I just go alone with my business and know that one day I will have 1,000 plus orders from strangers that love and enjoy my product.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy on growing my business is social media I think social media is the new way to market any business. Especially Tik Tok and Instagram it’s so much competition on both apps but it also motivate you to keep going because it’s like if they can do it I can do as well. Making reels are one of the ways my business receives a lot of feedback and interaction it shows my customers and potential customers & engaging content. I would also say email marketing for a more diverse and older crowd. Email marketing gives more interaction on website clicks also social media clicks showing your work more in dept before making that purchase that’s why engaging content on all social media sites is important and effective.
