Tashala, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
My first paying client was a family friend. She saw a post I put up of balloons that I did for my sister’s birthday and reached out to me. She was willing to pay which was fantastic! I didn’t really know or understand pricing so I charged her a very low price. She ended up paying me more than I had quoted. I really appreciated that’s when my confidence was boosted! I framed my first dollar which I made for a whole year and over the years I have framed more money as I got big events. To this day I still have that $50 .
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Tashala Ashby I live in Austin Texas. I’m a wife (Frederick and a mother of 6 beautiful children two boys and 4 daughters. What really pushed me into the Event business as we couldn’t afford to have big lavish birthday parties for our children like my neighbors, so I started to do research on how to become a party planner with no money. So what I did was I saw a little thing at Walmart that are on sale I will just pick them up. Then create these ideas in my mind about what type of party I wanted to have for my family. Over time I have learned to create mock-ups, and current work to show clients. I think what has helped me over time is to know what most clients are looking for in the latest trends. I’m most proud that I have repeat clients, and they spread the word about my work. My main potential is to know that I would do the work and excellence and always keep them involved in the process..main potential is to know that I would do the work and excellence and always keep them involved in the process.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my business is posting new content once a week, and creating videos, as I’m doing an installation. During lives videos as I’m blowing up balloons. They can ask questions and get a direct answers.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
2022 was a hard year for me. As my business was taking off my health was declining. I was having trouble with my balance, walking, with my eye right or just riding a bike. I felt so bad that I had to decline several inquiries and install them because I couldn’t understand what was happening with my health. But I had an amazing family that encouraged me to teach them what I knew. All the while I was training my children and husband to book events and payment methods it was discovered I had a tumor on my brain and had to have emergency brain surgery. Once I had my surgery in surgery three days I was back up attending to my business with my family taking calls and doing mockups. Two months later I was back in action. 2022 what a year of resilience for my family in the business.of resilience for my family and business,
