We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tasha Razzhigaeva. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tasha below.
Tasha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Photography was my passion since I was 12 but I’ve never dreamed that I will have my life path go this way. I would have defiantly started earlier and would advise myself not to be afraid. Not to be afraid to reach out, not to be afraid to express yourself and shoot, shoot, shoot. The more the better. Take your friend and go to interesting location, find your inspiration on instagram, pinterest, in magazines and let you express yourself. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, it’s a part of learning process. Time and effort you put in matters.
Learn how to light your model and remember that the light doesn’t just fall on your model, it’s also reflects from everything around you. If you start to perceive light in photography this way, you will open endlessly opportunities for your creative vision.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I think that I had this urge to express myself through something, and as photography was my passion, especially fashion photography, I decided to try and show my point of view on this world and woman in it through my lens, started with friends ended with professional models and beautiful, gorgeous, unique women. In Russia I worked a lot with local magazines, model agencies and brands. I shoot editorials, advertising, lookbooks, model tests, client photoshoots. My team and I had a creative freedom to express our vision, which made our work so much more than just work, it’s our life, it’s part of who we are.
I’m proud of where I am today and what i achieved and what a beautiful way is ahead of me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
This is a very good question. Hm..for the thrill of it, I guess. I just love the process of photo shoot, working with my model, searching for the angle, composition, light. Of course it is good to have your work acknowledged, make a living. But in thee end of the day it need to bring you joy.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
There were moments in my life when I needed to pivot my photography career. The first one was at the beginning when I gave up getting postgraduate degree in Economics and chose photography because I knew that it was what brings me happiness. It was scary at first, but I just kept going forward doing what I loved.
In 2022, I got my O-1 visa and moved to Los Angeles. It was an interesting, sometimes nerve-wracking process of collecting everything for my case working with a lawyer, not to mention changing country of living, but it all was worth it, I love LA.
