We were lucky to catch up with Tasha Raquel recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tasha Raquel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I started doing hair when I was in 6th grade. I fell in love with how creative I could get with different hairstyles. My big sister came to me and informed me that I could make this a profession and get paid. She told me to look into trade/vocational school and that’s exactly what I did. I was able to graduate from high school and cosmetology school at the same time. In 2014, I started working at great clips. I realized I wanted to branch out and learn other techniques. Then I started working in a regular salon open setting up until 2018. I am now a suite owner. I wouldn’t change anything because everything happens for a reason . Im so proud of my progress.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up going to the salon every 2 weeks consistently. I would help our stylist clean up for a couple of dollars . I loved the feeling of looking into the mirror seeing my hair and how beautiful I was. As I got older , I developed a true love for hair.Education is very important to me when it comes to your hair journey. My passion thrives from education and helping my client understand the tiny or big details of having healthy hair.I am a versatile hairstylist. I specialize in Natural hair, extensions, Makeup, dreadlocks, custom wig unit construction, wig installs and many more. I love working as a freelance hair and makeup artist for photo shoots, films, movie sets, weddings, and special events.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I was starting off as a new stylist , I often got discouraged. You have to build clientele, gain clients trust , manage your money , build business credit and so much more other things. It gets overwhelming. The process is definitely worth it in the end . I began to do research and take virtual classes . I took that information and created my own system to stay organized and stay on game. It helped me tremendously and allowed me to gain back control of my business.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Posting my work on social media ! Your potential client do not know you’re out there if you don’t post.
