We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tasha Mayes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tasha below.
Tasha , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
While working full time as a staffing supervisor for Kelly Educational Staffing I began coming up with names for my business. I kept note of the names in my notes app on my iPhone until the one day I came of the name that really grasped me “Rich Rags” It was catchy and resembled exactly what I envisioned. Soon after coming up with the name I started working on my logo, researching fashion trade shows to purchase inventory and studying other boutiques that I admired all while designing my website. Four months later I was able to launch my online store.
Tasha , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started in the retail clothing business in 2019 as an online e-commerce selling unique clothing that I would consider statement pieces. In January 2021 in the middle of the pandemic I opened my first brick n mortar in Saint Louis Delmar Loop located in University City. I’m most proud that I accomplished my first year of business during one of the hardest times in history through the Coronavirus Pandemic.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The thing that’s help me build a reputation within my market is the level of trust that I’ve established with the quality of clothing, the unique selection of clothing and the customer service that I provide. These things alone have gotten me very far.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I was disciplined enough to save for the funding my business while working for my full time employer as a staffing supervisor. It was complicated, but I made the necessary sacrifices to take the steps into entrepreneurship.
