We were lucky to catch up with Tasha Harris recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tasha, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I’d just moved here, still holding my phone for directions because I was always lost. I was looking for a beauty supply to purchase a Denman brush. Finally, I saw a Sally’s beauty supply. I whipped on the lot and ran in relieved. I’m walking through the store and notice this woman with thick black hair that was looking for hair color. As she turned I saw the the back of her hair was damaged. In my true Tasha fashion, I looked at her and said “I don’t think you want to buy that, I can help you.” We started talking about hair color and the difference between this, “eye roll” box dye and the services I can provide and I gave her my business card. She called a week later to schedule her appointment. The excitement I had from my having my first client that fit into the type of clientele that I wanted. The feeling of relief knowing that I’m actually in another city starting over, and this is just the beginning. She loved her hair, tipped well and scheduled another appointment. Three years later and I’m still keeping her hair beautiful.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m over 20 years in this industry and I’m still having fun. I believe being able to be creative and enjoying what you do is the key to my happiness.
I provide color, cuts, extensions and straightening services for textured hair.
The biggest problem I’ve noticed is retention. The majority of women want long hair but aren’t willing to do the work to get there. That’s where I shine! With me you can have it all!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
POSTING! I have to give it to my dear friends and the owner of the salon for guiding me through because I was not utilizing social media at all.
I had to create content that was relevant to where I wanted to go. Initially, I focused on one service to build a following and it took off from there.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I left a client list of over 300 people to start over on Dallas. Crazy right! This move took me out of my comfort zone and as afforded me opportunities that I didn’t know I could achieve.
