We were lucky to catch up with Tasha & Dale Rosemond recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tasha & Dale, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
It’s easy to say we wished we’d started our business sooner. But, we are firm believers in everything happening at the right time, and not a moment sooner. Before we started our business, it was a hobby, just a pastime Dale had done after dinner each night. Creating was his way to decompress after sitting at a desk all day. We had often talked about having a Plan B because as we’ve seen too many times, no one is irreplaceable or safe from restructuring at their place of employment. So, like many, once Covid lockdown started, we were able to use the time we’d spent commuting to and from work or shuffling the kids to and from school and activities to hone in on our craft. Dale had already done tons of research over the years and would keep me in the creative and technology loop. I’d worked in Finance for years and never thought I’d had a creative bone in my body outside of the Pintrest projects I’d executed. My intention was to remain “back-office support.” After some convincing by Dale, I was finally comfortable using our Co2 laser and and quickly moved from back-office to creator.
Over the last 3 years, we’ve watched a pastime became our passion.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Dale and I had been married for over 10 years when we decided to turn our pastime into a business. With family ties to the Caribbean, we wanted to honor our ancestors. As creators of laser-crafted and hand-poured resin decor, we seek to reflect the beauty, uniqueness, and resilience of the Caribbean islands we cherish. We pride ourselves in using locally sourced and reclaimed components from within Connecticut and around the United States. But, exotic wood is never far from our heart.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
All of our pieces are made in-house. By no means are Dale and I trained in woodworking of any kind. We are 100% self taught. We, both, have always had a passion for learning new things and considering that we live in the age where technology resides in the palm of our hand, education by way of research is now easier than ever.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Like millions of people around the world, Covid forced many to pivot in their day-to-day lives, career and family in some cases. However, we like to think that rather than pivot, Covid helped us to realign our Chakras in order to redetermine what it most important.
