We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taryn Vaughn. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taryn below.
Hi Taryn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally right before I graduated high school.
Growing up, I had a plan for myself and knew from the jump that I was going to get through school as quick as I could and go to college; I was always active in school to make sure I was setting my future up to be bright and prosperous. I was an AVID student for 7 years and joined the student council from 10th-11th grade year. By that time, I knew at that I wanted to go to UCLA to further my education and I was determined to have a double major in Criminal Justice & Psychology. I took many AP courses each year in high school & by the time I hit 12th grade, I had enough credits to graduate a semester early.
When I looked back at all the things I accomplished in high school and how I was able to graduate early, I realized in that moment that I was capable to do ANYTHING I set my mind to and that I didn’t want to turn around and jump back into the system of education after spending 12 years in it. At that moment, I decide to take my chances at something that had my interest for a while, but I was just never old enough to make my own decisions with it; Modeling.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
If some of you haven’t read my previous interviews with Voyage before, I suggest you do so as that dives into the entire start of my modeling career.
For a brief overview, I started modeling after I graduated high school with a local agency here in Denver, CO. With them, I was able to establish connections, meet amazing people in the industry, & received some pretty amazing gigs that I’m still in awe about today!
Fast forward to 2019, I made the transition from modeling into designing clothes, as the industry with modeling was slowing down and I was at a stand still, but still wanted to feel involved with the lifestyle. As you can imagine, the last 2 years had been on pause for us, and during that time, some of us were able to tap into new talents we never knew we had; Sewing was that talent for me.
I had became best friends with YouTube and took one sewing course to perfect my self taught skills and from there, the brand R.Cher, which represents prosperity and power, was created. Since then, I have created many pieces for not only myself. but others, I’ve enrolled in classes and programs that sharpen my skill set in pattern making (S/O to Tricia and the Pattern Making Academy/@creativecostumeacademy, and I had my first photoshoot as the model AND designer.
These last 4 years, I have truly learned about the art of fashion, and I have made it my personal business to grow and glow within this industry. I am focused on quality and the experience when I am creating looks and for this year, my goal is to start making R.Cher a known name not only in Colorado, but in other states and actually start selling my brand.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is that there is no wrong or right way, it’s YOUR way. I love the fact that I have the freedom to make whatever I want, whenever I want, however I want. The only critic that matters is myself, because it’s MY art.
Luckily, the response of what I do has been overwhelming with positivity. It makes me feel so good when others acknowledge what I do and let me know how much they love my work or how they’re inspired. It doesn’t feel like a job when I create, I don’t feel forced to do so or pressured to keep up. No one can take away what GOD has granted me with, that’s the greatest gift of them all.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building an audience has to be one of the hardest things to do when you’re a creative. I struggle with this still today, but honestly within the last 2 years, I had to break the feeling of NEEDING more and embrace the feeling of enjoy what I already have.
The people who follow me now are genuine people in my life who’ve support from the very being! Some are life long friends, some are family, some are associates, the rest are people who find my profile along the way. I don’t have a huge following, but when I post I get the most love from those who have been around to see my progress.
Having a solid following by legit people who really want to see you win in life is so much better than having thousands of followers. If you stay consistent in your work and be true to who you are, the following will come in due time.
