We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taryn Echeverry Thayna Alves. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taryn Echeverry below.
Taryn Echeverry, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Traditionally, a curator is someone responsible for selecting and managing collections of art in institutions such as museums, galleries, and libraries. Within this traditional framework, art is often perceived as paintings, sculptures, and similar works. When thinking of famous art pieces, one might consider Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa,” Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Black Iris” or Alexandros of Antioch’s “Venus de Milo”. However, between the 14th and 17th centuries, furniture began to be regarded as art as well. During this period, the objects and furniture that people interacted with in their living spaces started to hold the same value and high regard as the art adorning the walls of their homes. Artists such as Le Corbusier, Lina Bo Bardi, Ray and Charles Eames, and Isamu Noguchi became legends in their own right.
Our name, The Curator, reflects our ongoing effort to blur the lines between utility and art. We create dialogues that address our clients needs for functionality in their homes, while also fulfilling their desire to live in spaces that evoke emotion and inspiration. We design functional art meant to be lived in and enjoyed, where pieces like the sofa and side chair are integral parts of the narrative we craft when planning and designing a space.
The Curator embodies the idea of bridging the gap between the world and the objects we interact with daily and transform some of these items into something more meaningful. Our studio designs spaces where everyday objects are reimagined, exploring what more they can offer when given additional texture, depth, or layers

Taryn Echeverry, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Our story begins with Thaynà Alves, an accomplished interior designer and former display artist from New York who founded our studio. With a rich background in photography and styling, Thaynà has been creating captivating environments that bring unexpected contexts to life with a chic charm. She believes in crafting homes that go beyond mere looks, focusing on tranquility, serenity, and inspiration to create truly cherished living spaces.
A couple of years into our journey, Taryn Echeverry (formerly Taryn Felder) joined the team. Taryn, a designer of interiors and furniture, come from a business and creative production background. She draws her inspiration from the vibrant tapestry of cultural diversity and duality. Her empathetic approach transforms intangible ideas into tangible, lived experiences, ensuring every design reflects the essence of its inhabitants.
Now, as a Los Angeles-based design studio, we combine our constant goal of challenging design narratives with a shared passion for creating unique, harmonious, and inspiring spaces. Our goal is to make every project not just aesthetically pleasing but also profoundly livable, crafting homes that resonate deeply with those who live in them or interact with them and makes us continuously proud to keep working towards.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Like many others, we started our journey as beginners, constantly learning, watching, trying, and observing. We still place a strong emphasis on learning as an integral part of our work-life balance. We learn from our suppliers and installers as well as from the artists we collaborate with on our projects and always welcome opportunities for learning through to better work with the suppliers and/or installers we bring on our projects.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The 2023 writers’ strike threw us a curveball, underscoring just how intertwined our industries are. With many of our clients in the entertainment industry, we felt the ripple effects on our projects. Despite the uncertainty and delays, we navigated the situation by broadening our approach and exploring new avenues
