We recently connected with Tarron Gregory and have shared our conversation below.
Tarron, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
When it comes to bringing a idea, business plan, investment, design to life it’s all about the process and execution. You can’t get to connected to the end goal, you have to go through every emotion and outcome, be present in every step of the process. I’ve just recently executed a clothing drop and set up a pop up shop for that same clothing drop. Through that process it was manufacture research, finding a design, ordering a sample, communicating with manufacturers, setting up photoshoots, Communicating with models and photographers. Partnering with other brand owners, finding and communicating with venues, setting up marketing campaigns. It’s a lot that goes into the process, a lot of patience as well as being able to critically think and adjust.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started out as a photographer/videographer. I managed behind the scenes footage on podcast and put together mini skits or short films for clothing brands. I love fashion, I love streetwear, I took online fashion design classes with a program that is partnered with Parsons School of Design & Complex Blog. Learned quality, learned strategy, learned proper planning and product placement. Between that and the knowledge I soaked up from working with other clothing brands I started a clothing brand and I’m working on starting up a podcast. I also do Amazon FBA/wholesale. I’m most proud of my mindset and my drive, being able to articulate my ideas and thoughts. As well as the relationships and accolades I’ve acquired along the way
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My ability to network and relate to people I believe is what helped me build my reputation. I value the connections and relationships I’ve built in this business and in the community. I hold my word as well as my peers and partnerships to a high standard I want for them the same thing I want for myself if not more
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think that in the creative industry no matter if it’s art, music, clothing, etc. you deal with a bit of scrutiny from the outside world or the “non-creatives” for all kinds of reasons, whether it’s your designs, your ideas, your flow, your process. And it could be from anyone, friends, family and the critics. I’ve found that literally following your first mind, going with your gut feeling. Not taking advice from people who’ve never been where your trying to go. Understanding that this is my life, I can make this however I want, I dictate how this goes for me. My own favorite line is that “I am the Main Character” or from the late rapper and entrepreneur Nipsey Hussle “Would you rather be at war with yourself and at peace with the world or at peace with yourself and at war with the world” and I feel as if for you to reach your full potential in life to be able to be as creative as you possibly can you have to be one with yourself, you have to be at peace with yourself. So not caring what people think, doing stuff for you and for your benefit and satisfaction. Understanding that no one is going to every truly understand 100% that makes you appreciate the people that do 100x more
