We recently connected with Ta’rod Gaston and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ta’Rod, thanks for joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
I have a few heartwarming stories I can tell that I have encountered over my journey but this one was my favorite. I was at a calisthenics workout park in Ecorse, Michigan when a little boy came around me and was intrigued by my workouts and tripod. He asked if I did workout videos on YouTube and says he always wanted to go viral. The reason it was heartwarming for myself was because he was interested in what I was doing and wanted to be apart of it. I told him to “come here” so that he could get into the intro of my video and we did some muscular poses and shook hands at the end with wholesome smiles on our faces. I love that the youth finds what I do interesting because it opens up their imagination to get physically active.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Ta’Rod Gaston and around 3 years ago I decided to make being physically active my priority. It all started with going to the gym with a friend one day where I made a commitment that I wouldn’t give up on going to gym this time. In the beginning it wasn’t easy but I kept showing up and leaving the excuses behind once I got in that gym. After about 2 months into my journey I began to record my workouts to hold myself accountable. After consistently recording my workouts and posting them I began to see the traction and attention my videos would gain from people online and my peers also. The feedback I would get in person and online from my videos were amazing. People began telling me that I’m motivating/inspiring, and that I’m the reason they’re going to get in the gym. Some would even ask for me to train them. My videos opened up doors for me to create my own opportunities, like starting a brand called “GoGetActive” and to start my offering my own training services. GoGetActive is based around physical activity and getting fit but it also means getting out your comfort zone to do what’s necessary to make you a better person overall, inside and out. Another opportunity I created for myself was opening up a group workout class that was free for those who wanted to come out to get active. I hosted it in July of 2024, it was a complete success. Clients won prizes, burned calories, and most importantly of all, was surrounded with positive energy. Hosting that group working really showed me what I want to do and that’s spread love and positivity through the act of physical fitness. I want to be the one to help those who have barriers stopping them from getting active. Peace, love, & positivity energy is what I’m going to continue pouring into those I come across.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Two things, discipline & consistency. Without those two it will be hard to succeed in any industry. You have train yourself to do what others are not willing to do in order to get to your goal. Constantly putting in the effort everyday to be better than you were before. It’s not a race, it’s consistency, just don’t give up on what you want !

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn was blaming others for how my life was going, not realizing I was the one in control of my life the whole time. I spent years in a negative/toxic mindset and I wanted that to change. I knew I had to start by looking at where I was placing my energy. All of my energy was focused on the negative instead of the positive. Once I started changing my perspective on life and focus on the positive, things started to get better and I started finding clarity.
