We were lucky to catch up with Tarnesha Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tarnesha, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
There is a quote by Charlie T. Jones ” Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.”
One story I enjoy sharing is that when I decided, on a whim, to enter into a pageant at the last minute; with no experience.
One of my previous jobs had instilled in me the importance of self-development.
Always be a student in life, continue to learn and grow. If you are in a room where you know everything, you are in the wrong room.
I have applied the term, do one thing a year that scares you. That particular year, entering the pageant was something outside of my comfort zone.
I was on Facebook one evening and saw an ad about a sponsored available position in a local pageant. I decided to apply for fun. After a couple of weeks passed, I received an email letting me know I was selected to participate but had ONE month to prepare!
Talk about being anxious! I began to study pageantry, watched YouTube videos, and even subscribed to many pageant informative emails. I began to practice my speaking and interviewing skills. Having such a short timeframe and pressure taught me my strength as an individual. I learned how to be courageous, confident, and believe in myself.
I didn’t take home a crown, but the process helped develop my passion for teaching women about the “crown” of confidence we all have within.
If I had not taken that risk, I would have delayed my chance to grow, gain confidence, and embrace who I am.

Tarnesha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello Friends, my name is Tarnesha and I am the owner of CROWN Tarr!
At a young age, I lost my voice. I didn’t know how to express myself, lacked confidence, and had low self-esteem. It wasn’t until I found a love for designing jewelry. I always described my accessories as the icing on the cake. I compared accessories to having confidence. Wearing my accessory (CROWN) was a reminder of my confidence. Wearing your CROWN teaches you to hold your head up high and know that you are worthy.
C.R.O.W.N stands for the Confident Reflection of Women Now! CROWN teaches women to overcome their past and embrace who they are now! Women are encouraged to find their “crown” confidence from within and wear it proudly!
Once I discovered that although my story is unique, I am not alone! Many women have experienced a lack of confidence and low self-esteem at some point in their life. We have all (at some point) allowed our past to hinder our future. My purpose is to encourage, affirm, motivate, and uplift women to reach their goal of finding their inner CROWN.
CROWN Tarr help develop women through self-care workshops, care groups, motivational videos, and e-books by discussing common topics.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My specialty is working with women. My most important and effective strategy is making a connection. How do you make a connection? Listen! You have to listen to the needs of your clients. Once you do that, you can understand how to be effective in finding a solution for them. At the end of the day, we all want to feel heard.

Any advice for managing a team?
When managing a team, you have to be mindful that there is a mixture of different personalities. Growing up, the elders in my family taught me to always treat others the way YOU would like to be treated. What if I challenge that? What if you treat others the way THEY would like to be treated? You do that by learning their love languages. The common 5 Love Languages that are used in relationships, I like to think of this 5 appreciation languages for my team and treat them in the way they feel appreciated.
