Alright, Tariq thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later

I started my first business in 2008-2009 in the middle of a recession. It was very difficult to learn during that time period due banks failing and hard to raise capital. It turn out to be a successful business and help start my nonprofit idea up. I wish I opened my business’s earlier because it would have been easier to raise capital and finding employees in a less stressful environment. Also starting earlier I would have been more experienced to better manage the recession.

Tariq , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

The founder of the Mangum Foundation is Tariq Mangum, who was born and raised in West Philadelphia. Graduated from Strayer University 2012 bachelors in Business Accounting and I started the Mangum Foundation in December of 2012. The reason I started this organization is because I was injured in a car accident in my 12th grade year of high school. The car accident left me as a quadriplegic. This was the hardest time of my life. The only way I got through this time was help and support from other people. So now I want to help others because I know how important it is to have someone in your corner at a time of need. Mangum Foundation will be here to help other who will be in need of assistants because everyone deserves help. When I became disabled at the age of 17 from a car accident in April of 2006, it changed my perception of life. It gave me a passion to give back and help people in need. So my goal is to open a non-profit organization and uplift communities while giving back to others in need.

How’d you meet your business partner?

One my Cofounder I met in Pre K. We opened a cleaning business together 20 years later. Sometimes life comes in full circle.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Telling your personal story to your community or customers to become relatable to your core base. Organic marketing is the best marketing because customers like to know who’s behind the company are more likely to support them in their journey.
