We were lucky to catch up with Tariq Boynton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tariq thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
In a life where everyone is always in a rush, and always trying to climb over the next person; I think the kindest thing anybody(s) has ever done for me was to really show me the ropes. I’ve got a few friends/mentors who took time out of their own personal lives, to really show me what to do and when to do it. Obviously nothing is truly understood until it’s put into practice, but I soaked it all up and learned to maneuver my way through this life.
Tariq, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a Chef. I specialize in weddings interesting new flavors & familiarity. When I do my pop-ups at OurBarAtl, I am known for being on the more “healthy side” of cooking. I am most proud of where I am today, for how young I am. I have been through, just as much (if not more) as the next person, but I kept going. My favorite quote is “Fall 7, Rise 8”. What sets me apart from others? I’m not really sure. I am simply me, but better.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
People!!!!! People are the best resource when it comes to learning. Not just any people, but the ones who have succeeded in doing what you OR other people deem as “Difficult”. They might not have all the answers, but they have the ones that you don’t have. So why not learn from someone in a better position?
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth. It’s really a mixture between WOM, & self-marketing. Most of my business I’ve gained through people who heard about me in person, or through someone else. Self-marketing; If you don’t show who you are, who will? A tree might make noise regardless, but if no one is around to hear it, it’s goes unnoticed.
