We recently connected with Tarikh Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Tarikh , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I still work a full time job and work for myself. I’m in the process of working for myself full time as going to work then driving two hours to perform in Denver has drained me a lot. I dream big daily so I either start my day making a beat or drawing a comic page. After I got comfortable creating more and more. I started to get more opportunities to work in the arts. My goal in life has been to live a comfortable life off my art. It’s been a journey for sure. After I leave my next job I don’t plan to work another regular job every again.

Tarikh , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a comic artist at heart. Besides that I make beats on old hardware. My favorite sound is the 12 bit sound of the sp 1200. I have a few secret converters that I use to get the sound I like. On the comic front I’m currently working on projects with a few different studios. I was the little kid at comic conventions who never made it big but never gave up. Shout out to Dan Vado and David Brown some the first people to help me in the industry. I offer comic book art and writing services to any studio with a great idea! I’m also working on my own projects from Battalion, Cosmik Slumz and a few others that will release in late 2023.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Just being born in Oakland ca. Then growing up in South Central. After living in those environments I graduated college worked in film and video games. Then I joined the military. That’s what brought me to Colorado years ago and I stayed after my service was over.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve pivoted a lot in life. The biggest one was to join the Army. That changed a lot in my life. I appreciate my time in service as I learned a lot and it introduced a lot to me. I appreciate being a veteran now as enlisted life was very difficult.
