We recently connected with TaRhonda Harvey and have shared our conversation below.
TaRhonda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Growth is exciting, but from what we’ve seen across thousands of conversations with entrepreneurs it’s also dangerous if costs aren’t watched closely – sometimes costs can grow out of control outpacing revenue growth and putting the viability of the entire business at risk. How have you managed to keep costs under control?
Being in the technology industry, there are always new tools that are being developed. There are various cool gadgets and system applications that could possibly help your business. You look at the benefits on their website or you try the free trial, and you immediately want to buy that tool. You start to think of how it could benefit your business.
I have learned in business to keep your cost as low as you can. There is a difference in investing in your business versus spending money on things just to have the latest tool. As I continue to grow in my business, I always write down, what can I use in my business to make my life easier. I would write down what I need the tool to do and not the name of the tool. This helps me to understand the functionalities that I need.
One of the mistakes that I see business owners do is buy tools and applications because it is the latest trend, and not understanding how it would work within their business. The tool should help you work smarter, not harder. If possible, you want to find a tool that can do multiple tasks so you won’t have to maintain so many systems in your business and it will save you money overtime. If it can automate some tasks for you, then you want to invest in a tool as such.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Sure. I am a Personal Branding Coach & Strategist, Web Designer and the Owner of Kolmio Global Inc. I help entrepreneurs create a captivating brand that attracts clients and build a digital presence to match. I provide one-on-one consultations, group consultations and digital products. With over a decade of experience, I understand how to strategically grow brands with the use of technology and practical business savvy. Tapping into my IT skills and experience building reputable brands, I launched Kolmio Global Inc. to provide marketing, web and brand solutions.
Kolmio Global was launched while working a full-time job, and after 3 years of working it solo, I decided to go into full-time entrepreneurship. My work had not only helped my clients achieve tangible success within their business, but my personal brand of lending actionable motivation and inspiration provides my audience with the roadmap for creating a positive mindset that is necessary to pursue and reach goals.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I sell on my site and use the WooCommerce platform. WooCommerce is a customizable, open-source eCommerce platform built on WordPress.
The pro to selling on your site is that you are driving traffic and your website visitors to your website. Plus, when you have products on your site, they can browse around and check out other things. It gives them the opportunity to see what else you offer, services and etc…
The con to selling on a different platform is that now you have to identify a method as to how you will drive your customers to your own website. For example, if you run an ad on social media and the link to purchase your product is on a different platform, how will you get visitors to your website to learn more about you.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source of new clients has been word of mouth and partnerships with other business owners. When clients have a great experience working with you, they will share the news and become ambassadors for your business.
