We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tareva Woodard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tareva below.
Hi Tareva, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
All of my businesses start from my love of caring for people. After facing adversity in the corporate world i took matters into my own hands and chose to go to school to become a barber in 2013 and have been going strong ever sense. In my constant interactions with different clients i noticed a few things, black people wanted to support reputable black owned businesses and i missed being able to celebrate the holidays with my peers. So from there i decided to form VIBES (very important black entrepreneurs social) which is a movement that brings black owned businesses and consumers together to circulate the black dollar. Our main event is hosted in December because also, as entrepreneurs we don’t get to have a holiday party so i created one.
Another lack that i have noticed is that men do not participate in “self care” often. Yes they will get hair cuts and they will make sure their hair is clean “enough” but they do not think to use quality products on their hair so i created a luxury hair care line for black men.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Tareva, the self proclaimed “Momma Mogul” is a woman that wears many hats. She is the wife of Terrance Woodard, also known as “Waldo”. Together Tareva and Terrence own TNT rentals which provide luxury vehicles for those looking to ride in style. Tareva is the mother of two biological daughters and a bonus daughter. Not only is she building an empire with the love of her life, she is also leaving a legacy for their children and teaching them that “girls can rule the world”.
Outside of partnership and motherhood she is a business woman. She is a crafted barber with over eight years in the industry. Because of her dedication to her vocation she created a male specific beard and hair care line called King Kare. Through loving her craft and the African American business community she decided that the best way to build up the black community is to funnel the black dollar back to black businesses. In 2017 VIBES was birthed; Very Important Black Entrepreneur Social. Her heart’s desire is to circulate the black dollar one connection at a time. Moving gracefully through this journey in Entrepreneurship, Tareva noticed the need to equip startups with opportunities that will alleviate excuses. Therefore, the vision of VIBES shifted to include a nonprofit organization that will provide entrepreneurs mentorship and seed money to catapult their businesses.
Tareva has a love for service and economic equality. When asked her heart’s desire, Tareva simply says, “My mission will always be to help everyone I come in contact with to be the best physical, mental, spiritual and financial version of themselves.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
VIBES is actually in the middle of a pivot. December 2022 at our 6th annual holiday party we introduced the VIBES awards and while it was successful it showed some areas where we needed to make changes. While the community enjoys getting together to socialize, they want more. They want to be able to meet more than once or twice a year and they need resources to help their businesses flourish. We’ve began to build out a curriculum for our non profit “ VIBES academy inc” which will provide entrepreneurs with tools and resources to help their businesses flourish
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
With both businesses i feel that my presence has helped me to build my reputation. I am always in my community supporting different businesses and events so when ever i have a project i know that i can count on the community ti support me. I do what i say i am going to do when i say I’m going to do it so people know that my events are quality. For Kings Kare i work with men everyday so i was able to test my products on them for their quality which is what i know has helped us to grow as much as we have.
