We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tara Spring a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Tara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?

When I first got started with SEO, I was also a copywriter for a marketing company. I knew very little about SEO and was really learning while supporting this new client – they were my first client.
I ended up getting this client from not showing up on google at all, started from square 1 with no business profile, nothing. Their only income at the time was word of mouth and social media posts. Once I came in and implemented the right key phrases for their website and optimized their google business profile, they got to number 1 on google and have been there at the top of the first page in their location and industry for the past 3 years straight. They even started a second website which is number 2 on google as well – so both of their websites continuously are the ones competing for the top spot on the first page of googles search results.

I love supporting small local businesses and seeing the new clients and orders flow in after that initial SEO and google business profile set up is complete. Nothing makes me happier than getting a text that says “The SEO is working!”

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I started out as a junior copywriter just simply because I enjoy reading and have a knack for grammar. I am also efficient with reading so was able to work my way up to senior copywriter learning the tricks and also SEO information along the way. Email copy became one of the first things I started offering as a service for clients, with some people having to send 2 or 3 promotional or announcement emails per week, this grew very quickly. Blogs go hand in hand with SEO so one of the most popular services I offer is my monthly SEO updates package. I will go in once per month, add new content, write a new blog with all the necessary SEO tasks included in those things and provide the clients with a monthly analytics or SEO report!

This has provided clients with the ability to stay relevant on google in their industry and location as well when their community is searching for their services!

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?

I 100% wish I knew about all of the AI tools there are now that are super common but have actually been around a lot longer. I also wish i had all of the SEO resources and research tools i do now much earlier because they have significantly advanced not only my business but my clients as well keeping them ranked number 1 on google search results.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?

Funding was minimal – all i needed was wifi and a good working computer and believe me I started with neither of those things. For awhile I was actually working off of phone data which was SO slow and unbearable. Now I am at the point where i have a whole office and 3 desktops that i work off of at the same time.

I just started small and any of the money that I earned from this work I was able to put back into my business or save because my husband is working to support our other needs. In my opinion and observation, in this day and age we can not survive or THRIVE off of solely one income unfortunately it is not that easy for the middle class/lower class anymore. So i am endlessly grateful to have this partnership to be able to reinvest in myself!
