Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tara Pepper. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tara, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
I believe It is important for schools to broaden their perspective on success. My personal experience while I was in school is that going to a 4 year university is the only was to have a successful career. There is nothing wrong with going to a university but I do believe schools should encourage students to explore trades. Success isn’t solely defined by a college degree, Trades offer a valuable skills and fulfilling careers. Diversifying career options ensures that individuals can pursue paths aligned with their passion and strengths. Personally for me that was doing hair. When I decided to pursue what I really loved and stopped caring that I wasn’t going to go the more traditional route of school so many doors opened in my career.

Tara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I always had a fascination with hair it has always peaked my interest. Once I graduated cosmetology school I threw myself into my career. I worked long hours and wanted to learn the ins and outs of this industry. I think it’s so important to be hungry in this industry. When I started my business i wanted to create a space that my clients feel they can have fun, relax, and walk out of there feeling refreshed and brand-new. Creating an experience for them is so important to me, I would describe my brand as laid back luxury.
After a couple of years into my career, I learned I was really passionate about creating custom dimensional colors and extensions. I decided to only specialize in that. Even when specializing I’m proud that I never stopped learning. I’m always going to classes that help me better my craft. I want to stay on top of hair trends so I can always bring the best of the best to my clients. I think that’s so important in this line of work because the industry never stops evolving!

How did you build your audience on social media?
Navigating the ever-changing landscape of social media trends can be overwhelming. Staying up to date with marketing techniques is crucial, but amidst the flux, consistency remains key. Showing your work is important is important but showing your authentic self to your audience helps establishes a genuine connection, making your presence memorable and meaningful. This helps you stand out on social media. I believe the more genuine you are on there the more people are intrigued in what you do. Success on social doesn’t happen over night so remember be CONSISTANT and be patient.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Social media and positive word of mouth from clients has proven to be a potent strategy for expanding my clientele, Social media such as Tiktok and Instagram provides a platform to showcase my work, or being able to show my day to day. This keeps me connected to potential new clients, While satisfied clients amplify the reach through their recommendations. These two things are a pivotal role in fostering trust and attracting new clients to my chair!
