We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tara Millamena a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
In my early twenties, I knew I wanted a career in a creative field. Many people think creative jobs aren’t real or that artists always struggle, but I didn’t let that stop me. As I grew older, I ignored those doubts. I saw successful creative people and knew I could be like them. When social media became popular, I saw it as a way for more creative people to succeed in what they love-including me.

Tara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been active on social media since 2012, diving in when influencers were just starting out. I began with random YouTube videos and eventually moved to Instagram. However, success didn’t come overnight; it was a journey of consistency. Along the way, I discovered my passion for being on camera and took commercial classes to improve my skills. This dedication paid off when I started landing brand deals, even with a small following on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
What sets me apart is my commitment to authenticity. I stay true to myself regardless of online acceptance—I don’t let others’ opinions dictate who I am. One of my proudest achievements is my consistency. Despite not seeing immediate results for years, my passion kept me going. Now, I’m thrilled to say I’m a full-time content creator.
For potential clients or followers, I want you to know that listening is one of my strengths. I use social media as a tool to genuinely connect, not just promote myself. It’s about understanding and sharing ideas, not just about me.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Throughout my creative journey, my goal has always been to expand my creativity. I believe everyone is born with creativity; it’s just a matter of nurturing that skill. Apart from my presence on social media, I have a deep passion for writing. I started crafting fiction stories as a hobby back in middle school, and in 2020, I reignited that passion. Now, a new aspiration of mine is to further develop my writing skills, delve into novel-writing, and eventually publish my work. I’m excited to share that I’m nearing completion of my first fantasy fiction novel.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One thing I’ve learned on my creative journey is that having a natural talent for something is just the beginning. I used to believe that being naturally good at something was all it took. However, as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to understand that truly developing your skills, even in areas where you have natural talent, is what truly sets you apart. Nurturing that initial gift is like adding the cherry on top—it’s what takes your creativity to the next level.
