Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tara Marie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tara, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
In September 2018, I started my podcast, 3 Spooked Girls with my best friend, Jessica. What had originally started as a way to spend more time together as long-distance best friends, evolved into a strong community of amazing humans who are interested in true crime and the paranormal. Our biggest goal has always been to give a voice to the voiceless. Over the past five years, we have shared cases from a vast range of time periods, solved or unsolved, and have worked with victims’ families to help tell their stories.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Tara Marie, and I am a true crime podcaster and content creator. I got into the true crime space in 2018 when I started my true crime and paranormal podcast, 3 Spooked Girls, with my best friend. From there, we have built a strong tight-knit community of Spooksters (our listeners). Our mission is to always bring awareness and be a voice for the voiceless. I am proud to say, that as an indie podcast, we are closing in on the milestone of 4 million downloads. Like most, I turned to TikTok for entertainment when the pandemic hit. Towards the end of 2021, I decided to give this platform a shot to help spread awareness of cases. Since I joined Tiktok as @spooky_sleuth, I have built a community of almost 600,000. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter, reading, and watching reality tv or horror movies.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media can be like the Wild West at times. Things are always ever-changing and completely different than when I first started using social media as a content creator. The biggest thing is to enjoy the content you make. If you’re talking about something you’re not passionate about it will start to feel like a chore, or you may stop altogether. Over the last five years, I have seen this time and time again. My biggest advice is to be consistent, do what you love, and not let the negativity that comes sometimes discourage you. Find your people, whether that be your audience or niche, and put yourself out there. The action that helped us, especially in the beginning, was doing collaborations and promo swaps with fellow shows. Yes, I am online to share cases and stories, but those friendships are not something to be missed. I have made some great friends thanks to the podcasting world and TikTok.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I show up, work hard to present ethical content, remain engaged with my community, and continue to be consistent to this day. If you want to build credibility in your market or niche, you have to show up. You have to let people know that you’re someone they can rely on whether that be for a certain product, or bringing them informational content. Ethics is something that is talked about a lot more in true crime and is so important. My listeners and followers know that I always try to hold myself up to the highest standard to be a trustworthy source of information.
