We were lucky to catch up with Taquila Bunch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taquila, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Faith and stepping out of your comfort zone. The two go hand and hand for me, with faith I know not to ever give up, to know that my businesses will do amazing things and continue to grow. Stepping out of my comfort zone for me is to take a chance even when I don’t know the outcome, but just do it because who knows it could be something truly amazing at the end but that’s when I have faith and take that leap. I stay positive with it all because I know that these things are meant for me
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My names Taquila most of my clients know me as Eyvette which is my middle name. Hair is my life, I love to braid I love to make my clients feel even more beautiful than they already are. Makeup that was my sisters thing, she loved it. When she passed away two years ago I decided to create my makeup line full of things that she loved, eyeshadows, lipstick, lashes, and foundations. It helps me to stay connected to her to always keep her apart of me. Both businesses are my babies. I love to teach people how to take care of their hair I love to learn new things about hair so I can keep my clients looking fabulous. When it comes to soft locs which is one of my favorite styles to do I fall more in love. Not to mention I’m quick, lol my clients come threw on their lunch breaks and be back before anyone notices. My clients are more than clients each one I have build amazing relationships with basically these ladies have become my family. I’m all about not only keeping your hair growing but always wanna bring laugher and happiness to people and hair allows me to do that. I’m great at it so I’ll keep going because I know it’s what I’m meant to do
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
So hair was not really my first choice of a career I really wanted to do graphic design, but my mom ended up losing her job around Christmas time and told us that she could cook for me and my siblings but there wouldn’t be any gifts, I remember this day like it was yesterday I understood but my siblings didn’t I had only two pictures of hair I had ever did I started posting those online and because I knew HTML I was able to make my ads stand out. The calls started coming in and I started doing hair all the money I made I gave to my mom to get Christmas’s gifts for everybody, it wasn’t easy though I was doing hair cheaper then most people on top of not having a place to really do hair. My house was packed with people but I did it during the summers I would do hair under my carport, I literally had a box fan, two chairs and a table. The ladies didn’t mind it they just wanted their hair done and I was gone get it done. When I tell you my business is becoming more amazing each year it is, I strive to keep going even when things are slow or not moving at all. Today my clientele is amazing and growing I have so much more in store for her bee natural and forever Dane llc, just watch
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
For me it’s going to be social media and word of mouth, you gotta keep those post coming, add people and keep your personal pages separate from you business pages. It’s always you gotta spend money to make money. Get those flyers made, get those business cards made. You gotta wake up early post those ads and send out specials from time to time if you want to do those. My clients are my walking flyers, they always let people know where to find me and that helps a lot. Take pride in your work others will see you love what you do and support you as well.
