We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taquiela Wright a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Taquiela, thanks for joining us today. Do you have any key partners or vendors – if so, how’d you find them and start working with them?

Initially, I started by identifying specific needs and goals for my projects. This helped narrow down potential partners who aligned with the brand vision and values. I leveraged my professional network and attended industry events and trade shows, which was instrumental in establishing initial connection, especially with my suppliers.

The negotiation process began with open communication to understand each party’s priorities and concerns. We exchanged proposals and sought common ground, focusing on long-term benefits rather than short-term gains. Setting clear expectations and maintaining transparency was crucial in building trust prior to me launching Delisa Rose.

Looking back, one key lesson learned is the importance of thorough due diligence before finalizing a partnership. While I eventually found a great collaboration match, spending more time vetting potential partners initially could have streamlined the process and possibly led to even stronger collaborations.

Delisa Rose is a luxury lingerie brand founded in 2022, committed to empowering women by promoting body positivity and individuality. The brand aims to boost confidence through elegant and luxurious designs that cater to all shapes, sizes, and ethnic backgrounds. Alongside my fashion endeavors, I have built a successful 23-year career as an engineer across various sectors. However, my true passion lies in intimate apparel design, a dream that has been with me since childhood. Overcoming numerous challenges in my early life, I battled with low self-esteem but emerged as a resilient individual, turning my struggles into a mission of self-celebration and expression. My design philosophy focuses on enhancing the female form, enabling women to celebrate their unique qualities and shared experiences in an empowering manner. My engineering background has significantly contributed to my success as a designer, particularly from a technical perspective.

As a designer, I take pride in my ability to blend creativity with functionality, creating impactful and user-centered designs. I want potential clients and followers to know that I prioritize collaboration, attention to detail, and innovation in every project, ensuring that each design resonates with its intended audience and purpose.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

As a designer, I take pride in creating pieces that empower individuals and reflect their unique identities. One pivotal moment in my career involved a major collection setback due to unforeseen circumstances. I adapted by exploring sustainable materials, ultimately leading to a successful launch that resonated deeply with our audience.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?

Absolutely. I wish I had discovered mentorship opportunities and industry networking platforms earlier in my fashion design journey. These resources could have provided invaluable guidance and support, helping me navigate challenges and refine my creative vision while connecting with like-minded professionals who understand the struggles of the industry.
