We recently connected with Taquesha Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Taquesha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I started Kwees Kitchen in February of 2021. As time progressed and I started to gain more clients and experience, I started to wish I did this at a much earlier age. I do understand things happen when they are supposed to, but I just feel I would be much further if I had started in my early 20’s. I am currently 33.
Taquesha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am, in simple terms, a Home Chef. I also am a caterer. I started out only selling desserts. About two months into selling desserts, I added wings and nacho eggrolls. Overtime, I would watch chefs and internet cooks make master dishes, which made me want to focus more on presentation. I changed the way I promoted myself. I started to create food content that consisted of how to’s and recipes. I did this for a while to gain a following. I now sell $2 recipes online. I have my own seasoning blends available online as well. Im currently most known for selling food on the weekend.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I chose to fund my business with the income I bring in from working fulltime. In the beginning this was the only way. I was still building clientele at the time. Eventually, I gained enough supporters to introduce the ‘preorder only’ method for ordering. With this, I would only use money that was coming into the business to purchase anything needed.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
To build an audience, I watched how other food creators were doing things. I had to learn how to capture the attention of the audience I wanted to attract. I posted multiple reels a day if I could. I also ran ads locally. This grew my Houston audience to a point were I saw a major increase in weekend food orders. I would say staying consistent and targeting the appropriate audience for what you are doing is the best way to gain an audience.
