We were lucky to catch up with Tapeka Fennell-Francis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tapeka thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
The Architecture of Alignment
In my journey since founding my media firm in 2015 – which I have intentionally renamed this year to BrownStar Media House – I have come to realize that the traditional definition of success is often rooted in friction. We are conditioned to believe that ‘grit’ and a constant, frantic grind are the only paths to the top. But as I have evolved into my identity as a Media and Marketing Maven™ and a Holistic Wellness Architect, I have developed a different view: Success takes the courage to be whole.
To me, success is not a destination reached through exhaustion; it is the Architecture of Alignment. It takes a radical commitment to ensure that your external professional authority never outpaces your internal spiritual peace.
The Story of the ‘Soft’ Pivot
I remember a season in my career where I was achieving significant milestones, including being recognized as one of the Top Women in Alabama Media. On paper, I was successful, but internally, I was operating on the fumes of industry pressure. I realized that if I wanted to build a legacy that would endure, I had to change my frequency.
I made the rebellious decision to reject the ‘grind’ and embrace a ‘soft’ life – a life rooted in faith and obedience rather than self-effort. This year’s renaming of my business to BrownStar Media House represents that full-circle moment of alignment.
The result was transformative. In 2025, when my firm was named Best of Georgia, I didn’t receive that honor from a place of burnout. I received it from a place of wholeness. That experience taught me that when you align your spirit with your strategy, the doors don’t just open – they stay open. Real success is the ability to orchestrate a media takeover for a client and then return home to a sanctuary of peace with my husband, Garry, knowing that I haven’t sacrificed my soul for my status.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
An Introduction to the Maven: My story is one of evolution and intentionality. I entered the media industry over a decade ago, establishing my firm in 2015. Over the years, I’ve refined my craft to become Tapeka Fennell-Francis | Media and Marketing Maven™, a title that represents the intersection of strategic authority and creative soul. This year, I made the strategic decision to rename and rebrand my organization to BrownStar Media House – a move that signifies a new era of alignment for myself and the clients I serve.
The Craft – Media that Moves. Marketing that Matters.™: At BrownStar Media House, we specialize in high-level brand architecture, public relations, and content strategy. We don’t just fill digital space; we orchestrate narratives that are recognizable, impactful, and built to endure. My work is anchored by a singular promise: Media that Moves. Marketing that Matters. We provide a bridge for visionary leaders, multi-specialty medical practices, and creative powerhouses to amplify their influence without losing their essence.
The Problem We Solve – Success vs. Soul: The primary problem I solve for my clients is the “alignment gap.” So often, highly successful leaders find that their public persona has outpaced their internal peace. They are winning in the boardroom but feeling “fragmented” in their spirit. I step in as a strategist to help them close that gap. By applying what I call the Architecture of Alignment, I ensure that a client’s media presence is a true reflection of their deepest values, allowing them to lead from a place of wholeness rather than pressure.
What Sets Us Apart – The Soft Authority: What truly sets me apart is my rejection of the traditional “hustle” culture. In an industry that often demands constant friction and “grind,” I lead with a “soft” life philosophy. As an Award-Winning Media Strategist and a Holistic Wellness Architect, I bring a unique perspective to the table. I am currently specializing in the intersection of high-level leadership and holistic well-being to ensure that the strategies I provide aren’t just effective for a brand’s bottom line, but sustainable for the leader’s soul. We prove that professional excellence and personal harmony are not mutually exclusive.
Proudest Moments & Legacy: I am incredibly proud of the professional milestones we’ve achieved, most notably being named a 2025 Best of Georgia winner and receiving recognition among the Top Women in Alabama Media in 2019. However, my deepest pride lies in the legacy of my work. My son, who was with me when I first started this journey, now works beside me at BrownStar Media House. Seeing our family legacy grow while maintaining a sanctuary of peace at home with my husband, Garry, is the ultimate validation of my “Architecture of Alignment.”
The Takeaway for the Reader: If there is one thing I want potential clients and followers to know, it is this: Your influence is limited only by your lack of alignment. You don’t have to sacrifice your well-being for your work. Whether we are orchestrating a nationwide media takeover or developing a functional wellness line for the high-level professional, our goal is to show you that when you are truly whole, your impact becomes limitless.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience Through Refined Alignment
In the world of media and marketing, resilience is often mistakenly equated with “the grind.” For many, it means working until exhaustion and pushing through friction at all costs. However, a true story of resilience from the journey of BrownStar Media House is centered on the courage to pause, pivot, and prioritize peace.
The 2019 Threshold
In 2019, the firm reached a significant milestone – being recognized as one of the Top Women in Alabama Media. While the accolades were high and the business was thriving, the industry-standard “hustle” was beginning to create a sense of fragmentation. Resilience, in that moment, didn’t look like doing more; it looked like having the fortitude to choose a different way of leading.
Choosing the “Soft” Path
The most rebellious act of resilience occurred during the transition from that 2019 success into the current 2026 rebranding. It involved a conscious decision to reject the frantic energy of media and marketing culture and embrace a “soft” life – one rooted in faith and obedience.
The Pivot: Instead of following the noisy trends of the industry, the focus shifted to the Architecture of Alignment.
The Internal Work: This required an unwavering commitment to ensuring that professional authority never outpaced internal wholeness.
The Family Foundation: Maintaining a sanctuary of peace at home with my husband, Garry became as important as any media and marketing takeover.
The Evidence of the 2025 Win: This steadfastness to values over volume was validated when the firm was named a 2025 Best of Georgia winner. This wasn’t a victory born of burnout; it was a result of sustained, intentional excellence. Today, with my son working beside me, the resilience of BrownStar Media House is found in our ability to produce Media that Moves and Marketing that Matters™ while remaining completely settled in our spirit.
True resilience is the ability to evolve without losing your essence. It is the strength to build a legacy that is as restorative as it is recognizable.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
To build a reputation that withstands the test of a decade, you have to move beyond being a service provider and become a strategic necessity. My reputation within the market was built on the foundation of The Architecture of Alignment.
Since I established my firm in 2015, my reputation has been anchored by three distinct movements:
1. Consistency Over Hype
In the media world, it is easy to be a “one-hit wonder” with a viral campaign. However, building a legacy requires the discipline of consistency. From being recognized as one of the Top Women in Alabama Media in 2019 to winning the 2025 Best of Georgia, I have consistently delivered on the promise of Media that Moves. Marketing that Matters.™ My clients know that when they enter the “Maven” frequency, they are getting a decade of equity, not just a trend of the moment.
2. The Shift to “Soft” Authority
Perhaps the most significant factor in building my reputation was my willingness to be different. In an industry that rewards “grit” and constant friction, I began to lead with a “soft” philosophy. I proved that you can orchestrate a high-level media takeover while remaining deeply settled in your spirit. This reputation for peaceful leadership attracted a different caliber of client – visionary leaders who didn’t just want a marketer, but a Holistic Wellness Architect who understood that their brand is only as healthy as they are.
3. The Stewardship of Family Legacy
Reputation is also built on the integrity of your personal life. The market sees that my son, who was there at the beginning in 2015, now contributes to BrownStar Media House. They see the sanctuary of peace I have built with my husband, Garry. When a client sees that your “Architecture of Alignment” works in your own home, they trust it to work in their business.
The Maven’s Verdict
My reputation isn’t just about what I do; it’s about the Wholeness I represent. I have built a brand where excellence and ease coexist, and that is a frequency the market is desperate to tune into.
