We recently connected with Ta’Nyah Richard and have shared our conversation below.
Ta’Nyah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Since I was young, I always had a passion for art. I had always gotten paint, easels or some kind of makeup to express myself with. Of course at that age I just considered it something I liked to do My older sister was into beauty and since I was the younger sibling I got used as a model often, however I didn’t know how much it would shape my love for makeup today. I practiced makeup since then because of her and during quarantine I began expressing my art in a new way by painting canvases. It wasn’t until April 2021 that I decided I could take my talents more serious and make a page dedicated to my art. Nyah’s Museum was created and I instantly knew that I wanted this to go beyond social media and one day own a one stop beauty shop to provide services for everyone.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Firstly, my name is Ta’Nyah Richard and I am a 19 year old content creator/ freelancer from the Bay Area in California! I started my page Nyah’s Museum in April of 2021 which holds my gallery of makeup content and painting content, Your canvas is whatever you make it and whether it be a person or an actual 16×20 canvas board, however you express your art is up to you! That is the motto that molded Nyah’s Museum. I have a gallery of talents, so why not create a museum around being the Jack of all trades? My passion/dedication for my craft and my authenticity with my work is what sets me apart from the rest. I’m not afraid to show my progress, my mistakes, nor be my own canvas and that makes me relatable with my audience.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Aside from financial and mental stability, I see myself owning multiple beauty shops and giving other artists/beauticians the opportunity to showcase their many talents as well. As a women, it can be so exhausting having a self care day where you have to drive to different location to get different treatments. Nyah’s Museum will be a shop where you can go in and leave done up from head to toe! It will provide makeup services, hair services, tattoo services, nail services, eyelash services, and even skin care treatments! With hard work I will accomplish this and soon you will see Nyah’s Museum!
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I know some people hear freelance and the first thing they think of is FREE. Or if you tell someone you’re going into content creating they think it’s more of a hobby you’re picking up. It’s not taken as serious. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes of being a content creator, filming is just the icing of it. Being a freelancer is far from free and tends to be more stressful because it’s all on you. Your business, your brand, your content, your inventory, your page, your career, your life. It’s all you. I often see people comparing content creating to being an actor or actress and I think the comparison is a conundrum. Actors/actresses are typically paints the vision once someone creates it, being a content creator you are creating and producing the vision, not to say actors/actresses don’t work hard (in many cases they work harder) but content creators deserve just as much grace because they don’t have the resources most actors have and most of their work is produced and maintained themselves.
