We recently connected with Tanya Kunda and have shared our conversation below.
Tanya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The Name Salt Coffee has been a few years in the making. As a Christian it is vital for us to share about Christ and what he has done for the world. “Salt” Coffee stems from Matthew 5:13-16 which says “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
This metaphor represents the impact Christians are meant to have in the world. They are to be the seasoning and light in this bland and dark world and to strive to be like Christ. At Salt Coffee, this is foundational in how we operate to serve the community one cup at a time! This is our Mission!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In my other interview I mentioned how I was pushed into something medical and doing something like coffee was a hobby. I really didn’t think I could make coffee a career. As I grew and switched major after major I decided that medical wasn’t going to make me happy. Me and my husband decided that once he was done with school, he would help me build my dream into a reality. I worked as an event consultant for a couple years and that really helped with knowing the Jacksonville wedding/event industry. Which helped me grow in my relations with customers. Now, bringing my skills from that job and previous customer service jobs. I absolutely love making an event even more special and if I can customize the menu or branding or throw in something a little extra just to make a client happy I am more than happy to do that. I know people come from all kinds of back-rounds and if I can help my client even in the smallest of way I will do it.
Whether it’s tailoring a menu, adding custom branding, or just going the extra mile to make sure someone’s vision comes to life, I truly love bringing that personal touch to everything I do. I take pride in building genuine connections with clients and ensuring that every event feels like a family gathering. That’s the way I was raised, and it’s the way I approach my business—treating everyone with care, respect, and kindness. In the end, great coffee is important, but the way you make someone feel will leave a lasting impression.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my husband at my church. We have been going to the same church for over 10 years and I never batted an eye his way. However, one summer I was getting water baptized and I looked over at him and he looked different to me. I noticed him, and from that day we just hit it off.
I wouldn’t have any other person doing this with me. He has some many attributes that compliment mine and he does things that I hate to do and vice versa. I will always be an advocate for spouses doing business together. You grow together and mold each other into better people. Yes, it’s been hard at times but he’s been so patient and kind to me so I am so blessed.
How did you build your audience on social media?
The first thing I did when we launched our coffee cart was have a Launch Party. We have such a huge support system behind us, so we set up everything and invited all our friends and family to celebrate with us, treating them to some delicious coffee and teas.
What we had everyone do was leave a review on our google page and repost our launch post on instagram. That alone got us a few hundred follows. I think that’s super important to do before you do anything else. Get your community aware:) Then of course building your website properly to make sure you are ranking on google. I like to post on instagram consistently. Either on the story or my main page. And also switching up my content. Showcasing my personality, not just coffee. I love flowers and painting, cooking and other fun holiday activities. So you just share as you go along. It can be pretty exhausting to keep up with the trends but I am learning not to force content.
