We were lucky to catch up with Tanya J Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tanya J, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
Well, they did a lot right – both of them. My Mama so much so that I wrote a book and journal called: Things My Mama Said. I talk about everything from taking responsibility for your actions or recognizing that sometimes other people’s needs are greater than your own. I do this via 20 tales that ultimately challenge me to be a better, wiser, and stronger person; that I hope someone learns the same. There’s stories like shopping at the mall or watching television in the den, that my mother makes sure us kids think for themselves and understand that in life there are no shortcuts, handouts, or excuses.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Currently I’ve been in the fight of my life literally, as I battle Chronic Lyme Disease, but it’s not my first battle, and probably won’t be my last. Thus, my strength in my weakness is still made strong – even though I sometimes don’t feel it yet.
With Lyme I have constant inflammation and pain 24×7. And for me because of the dLyme, I also have co-infectiowns, and autoimmune disorders that included their own laundry list of symptoms.
However, at times my body creates challenges that my body can’t do itself. Some days it hurts to move, type, talk, or even think.
Yet, if I get a good day, few hours, even minutes I’m working, no flowing at the level of grace He affords me. I’m then given full accountability and responsiblity to my role and in my assignment as a Prophetic Milennial Marketplace Voice. One that’s here to be the mouthpiece of Him in a time and place that’s so necesssary now, tomorrow, and forever.
And if I’m honest, I feel like what He’s got me doing is something my generation especially has needed for quite a while. Lol, I’m just grateful He let’s me keep my roles as Coach | Author | Speaker | Strategist because His work alone keeps me busy; along with incorporating it within the other roles as sees fit.

Like I said before my 2nd Book Project is called Things My Mama Said. And in the book, there are 20 tales about my own mother, that will ultimately challenge you to be a better, wiser, and stronger person.
Titles like “A Hard Head Makes a Soft Behind,” “Tell Me One More Time Something Ain’t Fair,” and “You Can’t Beat God’s Giving No Matter How Hard You Try” reveal a brilliant, clever, and outspoken parent who teaches her children a.bout life before life does the teaching.
The saying above: tell me one more time something ain’t fair. This life lesson is one of the ones that although it’s been years, I still have to remember this as a double minority – African American woman.
