We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tanya Cross-Kimble. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tanya below.
Alright, Tanya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Ever since I was a little girl, I was always the “helper” and “giver”. I just loved to see people happy and smiling! So fast forward to my adulthood, I was not surprised when God placed the mission of blessing others on my family. We were always placed in environments where we would build important meaningful relationships with people from all “walks” of life and therefore would enable us to be obedient to God’s calling and create our Nonprofit – WeSeeU Inc which is a 501c3 that serves hardworking individuals and families in our underserved communities throughout the year. The name “WeSeeU (We See You) actually comes from the target audience we serve. The single mom who works hard to keep a roof over her family’s head and utilities paid but does not have enough money to stretch for the Holidays…..”we see you”! The young man who is working 2 jobs to take care of his family and just needs that helping hand with Back2School uniforms and shoes for his children….”we see you”! The college bound high school senior who excelled during their high school years and is on their way to college but just needs help in getting those items for the dorm room, or laptop/printer to start off their college journey…..”we see you”! These scenarios describe some of our annual initiatives we do for families in the community. We also have Mentorship and Financial Literacy Programs for our underserved schools. WeSeeU Inc creates a volunteer and giving platform that makes it simple for everyone with the heart to serve or give to do so while being hands on with blessing the families in our community.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
WeSeeU Inc has a village of volunteers and sponsors that contribute to the success of all of our initiatives which are as follows:
Holiday Angel Gift Giving
Reading Buddy Program
Financial Literacy/Technology Program
Nursing Home Valentine’s Angel Program
College Bound Senior Program
Back2School Program
Military Hand Written Letter Campaign
We also provide food and clothing for families that reach out throughout the year. We pride ourselves most on giving individuals, families, businesses and organizations in our community the opportunity to be difference makers. We are a smaller grassroots “boots on the ground” nonprofit that gives back in a HUGE way! Every year, we impact the lives of over 1,000 children. There’s a way for EVERYONE to get involved and make a difference. Our motto and saying is #ItStillTakesaVillage. It took a village back then and it still takes one today….a bigger and stronger village!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being a smaller nonprofit, we don’t get the Financial support that many larger nonprofits receive even though people may see us and know the work we are doing in the community. In many cases, our organization and volunteers are the ones wiping the tears, giving the hugs and saying the prayers with the families that have lost hope. We are taking the resources to the community and making sure that at the end of the day everyone has what they need to move on. I want to make sure everyone sees us and supports the smaller organizations not only by helping to fund some of our community initiatives but also by coming out and putting your hands in the mix or creating the opportunity for your employees to volunteer. I work for PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) and they give each employee 40hrs to volunteer in the community or at a school. If we had more companies to take a stance to encourage and support their employees in volunteering and giving coupled with organizations like WeSeeU that create volunteer opportunities, we could change communities and continue to impact lives.
How’d you meet your business partner?
The cofounder of WeSeeU is my husband George E Kimble Jr. We met at a church revival where he was one of the speakers. God knew what we both would need to balance our lives and walk in his calling of raising 3 wonderful children and to also create a nonprofit that would be a vessel to allow blessings to flow to people who are in need and allow blessings to flow from people who are able to give which opens the door for those same people to receive even more blessings because of their hearts to serve and give. It really doesn’t get any better that that! We are blessed so that we can be a blessing to others!
