We were lucky to catch up with Tanner Quick recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tanner, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
We’re still very much in the early stages of establishing the practice. The first and most important step was simply deciding to get started. There’s a lot of uncertainty and fear involved in opening a practice, and it can make you question yourself more than anything else. But at the same time, I’m incredibly grateful that the Lord has led me down this path. It has deepened my trust in Him throughout the process.
It’s never going to be easy, but I’ve learned that the easy path usually isn’t the right one. My advice to anyone considering starting their own practice is simple: just start. Get people in your corner who can support you. You’ll never feel 100% ready, but that shouldn’t hold you back.

Tanner, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who may not be familiar with me or my work, I’m Dr. Tanner Quick, and my passion lies in helping athletes not just recover from injuries but truly excel in their sport. My journey into sports chiropractic care began with my love for movement and performance, which evolved into a deep understanding of how the body functions and how it can be optimized for athletes of all levels. I realized early on that athletes need more than just pain relief – they need ongoing care that boosts their performance and prevents future injuries. That’s how The Performance Collective came to life.
At The Performance Collective, we specialize in world-class rehabilitation services that are personalized to each individual. Whether you’re dealing with shoulder pain as an overhead athlete, looking to enhance your rotational power, or trying to return to peak performance after an injury, we create a tailored plan that addresses your specific needs. Our approach combines innovative chiropractic techniques, functional rehab, and performance-driven care to ensure long-term results.
What sets us apart is our deep understanding of athletic movement patterns and our focus on the bigger picture – not just healing injuries but also enhancing performance and reducing future risks. I’m proud to say that we’re trusted partners to our clients, guiding them through each step of their journey toward better movement, higher performance, and long-term health. The athletes we work with, from high school players to elite performers, come to us not just for treatment but because they know we provide a level of care that helps them excel and sustain that success.
What I’m most proud of is the way we’ve been able to integrate rehab and performance in a way that truly resonates with our clients. It’s not just about getting someone back on the field; it’s about helping them dominate their sport while maintaining their health and longevity.
If there’s one thing I want potential clients and followers to know, it’s that at The Performance Collective, we’re as committed to your success as you are. We take pride in helping athletes overcome pain, recover quickly, and reach their goals in a sustainable way.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Other than training and knowledge, I believe one of the most valuable skills for succeeding in my field is the ability to deeply empathize with my patients and see things from their perspective. Working primarily with athletes, I’ve learned that their drive and motivation to push through pain or injury often comes from a place that’s not immediately visible to others. Whether they’re training for a big event, trying to secure a scholarship, or simply driven by a personal desire to perform at their best, there’s always a deeper reason that fuels their willingness to push their bodies to the limits.
Understanding that mindset – the “why” behind their decisions – is crucial to the care I provide. It’s not just about treating an injury or resolving pain in the short term. My job is to help them reach their ultimate goals in a way that supports both their immediate needs and long-term health. This means that instead of focusing solely on recovery, I take into account what drives them and tailor my approach accordingly.
For instance, if an athlete is dealing with a recurring shoulder issue, I don’t just address the physical symptoms. I dig deeper into their routine, their training habits, and their personal goals. Are they trying to increase their pitch speed for baseball? Do they need more power for Olympic lifting? By understanding what success looks like for them, I can create a game plan that not only helps them recover but also strengthens the specific areas they need to excel in their sport.
Being able to step into their shoes also allows me to communicate better with my patients. I’m not just telling them what to do – I’m explaining why it’s important in the context of their goals. This approach helps build trust and ensures that we’re on the same page when it comes to treatment and long-term performance. I think that’s what sets me apart and ultimately helps me succeed in my field: aligning my expertise with the unique ambitions of each athlete and helping them push beyond their limits in a healthy, sustainable way.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of my favorite stories of resilience comes from my collegiate football career. I know it may sound a bit self-centered to share, but it’s a pivotal part of my journey and a testament to perseverance. I started as a walk-on tight end, weighing maybe 215 pounds. My first year was spent on scout team, basically as a crash test dummy, and going into my red-shirt freshman year, I thought I had a real shot at some playing time. I had earned a partial scholarship and was getting reps with the first and second teams all spring.
But when the fall season came around, everything changed. A senior tight end returned from injury, another senior transferred in, and a super-athletic freshman joined the squad. Just like that, I found myself buried on the depth chart – fifth or sixth string. I remember feeling like my football career might be over, stuck as a permanent scout team player.
But about five or six weeks into the season, we had some injuries, and I got my shot. I played the rest of that season and set myself up for success going into the next spring. By the following fall, I was locked in a position battle for the starting spot. We traded starts for the first few games, but after that, the spot was mine. I didn’t miss a single start for the next two and a half years, eventually becoming a two-time All-Conference player and a team captain by my senior year.
This experience taught me the value of resilience, staying prepared, and never giving up, even when the odds seem stacked against you. It’s a story I carry with me in everything I do, especially when working with athletes facing their own obstacles. Whether it’s injury recovery or a setback in their career, I remind them that perseverance can turn things around in unexpected ways, just like it did for me.
