We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taniya Luckett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taniya below.
Taniya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
I launched Trutech Logistics, an Amazon Delivery Service Partner providing last mile deliveries with just one assistant, That was my Mom, right by my side. It was essentially the two of us handling everything — from paperwork to planning — while preparing to build a full team. My task was to hire no fewer than 10 qualified drivers within the first three months, and the pressure was on.
We hit the ground running, using community job boards, local outreach, and referral networks to attract the right candidates. I focused our interviews on reliability, coachability, and a positive attitude. While delivery experience was helpful, the right mindset mattered most. That assistant was critical in helping organize interviews, track applicants, and onboard new hires.
If I could go back, I would have built a more structured onboarding system earlier to streamline growth. But those first hires — scrappy, driven, and loyal — laid the foundation for everything that followed. Today we employ over 100 drivers and are celebrating our 6th year in business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
About Me & My Business – Taniya Luckett | Trutech Logistics
My name is Taniya Luckett, and I am the Founder and CEO of Trutech Logistics, a transportation and logistics company based in Southern California and a proud Amazon Delivery Service Partner (DSP). We are preparing to celebrate our sixth year in business, and every step of this journey has been fueled by purpose, passion, and a commitment to people.
I entered the transportation industry nearly two decades ago, first working for major companies like Ryder Transportation and Time Warner Cable, where I provided wide-area network solutions and fiber optics to government entities—further grounding my expertise in logistics, systems, and infrastructure. During the recession in 2008, I launched a transportation business where I was the driver. Even in industries that may have seemed unrelated on the surface, transportation has always been the thread that tied it all together. In hindsight, I now see that I’ve always been in transportation—I just had to grow through the journey to realize it.
After experiencing the instability of layoffs during the recession and again years later, I knew it was time to bet on myself. I started Trutech Logistics with just a few vehicles, a handful of drivers, and a vision to create a business that delivered more than just packages. Today, we’ve delivered over 15 million packages, managed up to 20,000 deliveries in a single day, and have provided jobs to over 300 employees, some of whom were displaced workers or individuals looking to reset and rebuild their lives.
But what truly sets us apart is our people-first mission. Trutech Logistics doesn’t just hire drivers—we build futures. We offer tuition assistance, childcare support, 401(k) matching, and full benefits to our team members. We’ve helped drivers go on to become firefighters, probation officers, and business owners. We’ve also proudly supported employees in their pursuit of trucking school and higher education, because we believe in building beyond the role—we believe in building lives.
Through our Next Mile Program, we provide career development and personal growth tools. We also deeply invest in our local community—participating in career days at Los Angeles schools, offering backpack giveaways, and even sharing Honey Baked Hams with our employees during the holidays to let them know they are seen, valued, and appreciated.
We’ve also created a culture of accountability and excellence. With business changes, we’ve stayed ahead by implementing real-time performance coaching, safety reviews, and leadership development within our team. We’ve built a reputation for consistent, high-quality service, driven by a leadership team that stands firm on performance, while leading with care and integrity. All while being flexible, adaptable and having the ability to pivot quickly to avoid sinking ships.
What I’m most proud of is not just what we’ve delivered—but who we’ve become. Trutech Logistics has grown into a platform that empowers others. We’re not just another delivery company—we’re a launchpad for growth, stability, and opportunity.
If you’re just learning about us, I want you to know this: We’re here to deliver excellence, but also to inspire transformation. Whether it’s through a package at your door or a career path for one of our drivers, our impact is intentional, and our mission is rooted in creating change.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Managing a team and keeping morale high is essential to day-to-day success. My approach is built on four pillars: clear expectations, consistent communication, driver recognition, and supportive leadership.
I start by setting clear goals for each shift and ensuring every driver understands what success looks like — from safety standards to delivery times. We have a short huddle every morning to review updates, shout out top performers, and answer questions.
I also believe recognition goes a long way. I run a “Driver of the Week” spotlight and give small bonuses for hitting key milestones. It’s not about big rewards — it’s about feeling appreciated.
On the leadership side, I stay visible. Whether it’s helping load vans or checking in personally after a rough day, my team knows I’m in it with them. That respect creates loyalty.
Lastly, I stay ahead of burnout. I watch for signs and offer mental health breaks, hydration kits, and flexible scheduling when needed. When drivers feel cared for, they care more about the work — and that’s how morale stays strong.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In my third year of operating as a DSP owner, I walked in one day to find that several of my key team members had unexpectedly submitted their resignations. It was a challenging moment — one that could’ve brought the entire operation to a halt. Instead, I stayed focused and acted quickly.
I brought in a contracted logistics team with prior experience to stabilize operations temporarily. This gave me the space and support I needed to begin rebuilding. During that period, I personally oversaw hiring, retraining, and morale-building to ensure the new team would be stronger, more aligned, and ready to grow with the business.
That experience tested every part of my leadership, but it also reminded me that true resilience is about keeping calm in chaos, adapting fast, and never losing sight of the bigger mission.
