We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tanisha Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tanisha, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

My hubby and I love to have a great time, but we realized that besides the normal parties and events, there weren’t any special hangouts just for couples. Even with the popularity of Social Media, we noticed that most conversations about marriage are geared toward unmarried folks. Now, don’t get me wrong, I still value the insights of my single friends, but when it comes to matters of the heart, discussing it with other happily married people feels more reassuring. I knew I had to do something about it, but I couldn’t figure out how to structure it besides being exclusively for couples.
For some time, I kept brainstorming until one day it hit me – “Couple’s Trivia”! My better half and I have been using this app that prompts us with different questions, with the twist being that we won’t see each other’s answers until both are given. It was a revelation! I got to learn things about my husband that I never knew before, and he likewise discovered something new about me.
And so, the concept for “Atl’s Couple’s Trivia Night” was born – a cozy little hangout where couples can engage in friendly banter while taking part in trivia games.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I always dreamed of throwing a grand birthday party, and finally, in 2021, I made it happen! Around 30 of my old and new social friends joined me in the celebrations, and soon, my party gained quite a reputation in our circle. I didn’t want to let the momentum die, so I started collaborating with others to host more events of my own. Soon, my events were the talk of the town – and for good reason! Not only were the prices reasonable, but each event was put together with the theme in mind, with amazing amenities and decor to boot. In Atlanta, any date night can be pricey, but with Atl Coupes Trivia events, you can rest easy knowing you got your money’s worth.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

As a seasoned “Lifestyle” Event Hostess, I was known for curating some of the sexiest events in Atlanta. However, my success was somewhat limited because the public eye tends to frown upon those types of events, and they can be tough to market without jeopardizing my guests’ anonymity.

I had to do some fancy footwork and concoct events that oozed sex appeal but also gave me the chance to reach a wider audience. So Atl Couple’s Trivia became the perfect atmosphere for the lovebirds out there. It was a hit, for sure, but alas, my options seemed limited. Turns out, there are more singles in Atlanta than couples (who knew? Lol), and they were clamoring for some trivia fun too. So I opened the floodgates and let the singles in. Because, let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good trivia night?

The next thing I knew, I was hosting my very first Singles Event in March. And it was a hit! That night was an eye-opener for me – I realized that the possibilities for fun are absolutely endless. And just like that, Atl Couples Trivia Night was transformed into Atl Trivia Night.

With Atl Trivia Night, I get to let my creativity run wild. I can make each themed event totally unique while still reaching a wide mix of audiences. It’s like a trivia-based carnival, and everyone’s invited!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

You know what they say, if you want to build your social media presence, you gotta be social! These platforms weren’t created for you to just scroll mindlessly like a zombie (although I have been guilty of that in the past).
Nowadays, I’m all about intentional online interactions. I’m watching your videos, reading your posts (even if they’re longer than the entire Harry Potter series), and leaving actual comments instead of just a string of heart-eye emojis. I’m even sharing your events and content like it’s my job (which it’s not, but hey, who needs money when you’ve got love and support?).
And guess what? People notice when you engage with them in an authentic way. It’s like a social butterfly effect – the love and support you give out in the virtual world comes right back to you in the form of real, genuine connections. So get out there and show some online love!!!
