Tanisha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

Picture a childhood filled with love, laughter and the sweet allure of ice cream. I adored the ice cream truck’s jingle and cherished the moments spent savoring each scoop, often lovingly made by my great-grandmother Meme, alongside my great-grandfather and uncles. Those were the flavors of my childhood, each bite, a dance of nostalgia.

Beyond the ice cream, there were moments of pure whimsy – making up dances with my mom and sister, embarking on bike excursions with neighborhood friends, thrilling trips to amusement parks, and camping adventures with cousins, uncles, and a beloved auntie. Every moment was a cherished memory.

Yet, my childhood wasn’t without its challenges. Severe food allergies, asthma, and eczema led to hospital visits. But it was the warmth of family and friends, especially during holidays and birthdays, that brought us all together. Those celebrations were magical, weaving a tapestry of love and togetherness that would later inspire Dreamy Vegan – a place where everyone could share in the joy of ice cream, just like the dreamy days of my youth.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

My journey has been a testament to resilience. Balancing a full-time job while pursuing my education was a demanding feat, and during my time at UCLA, I faced a crossroads where I contemplated dropping out due to the challenges. It was a period of uncertainty, and I struggled to find my footing.

However, my determination to succeed prevailed. I discovered a sense of community and support that encouraged me to persevere, ultimately pulling my grades up and completing my education. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege to work alongside Presidents, CEOs, and C-level executives, gaining invaluable knowledge and wisdom from their expertise.

While these roles provided valuable experience, they didn’t always offer the stability I was seeking. Nevertheless, I never allowed adversity to be an excuse. Instead, I used the knowledge and skills I acquired in those positions to fuel my passion for Dreamy Vegan. It’s through these experiences that I’ve learned to embrace resilience as a driving force in my journey, allowing me to overcome challenges and turn them into opportunities for growth and success.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

My journey involved a significant pivot while maintaining a full-time career. I recognized the need for stability and wanted to explore a path that aligned more closely with my passion and vision for Dreamy Vegan.

During my time at UCLA, I had a moment where I considered dropping out due to the challenges I faced in finding my footing academically and personally. It was a period of uncertainty, but I persevered, and I’m grateful I did. I eventually found my sense of community and support, which helped me regain confidence and pull up my grades.

After graduation, I entered the workforce and continued to work full-time, gaining valuable experience in various industries. While I had the privilege of working alongside top executives, I still felt that something was missing. The stability I sought remained elusive, but I was gaining knowledge and wisdom from these experiences.

This realization led to my decision to pivot into entrepreneurship and start Dreamy Vegan. It was a pivot from the corporate world to becoming a business owner while still maintaining a full-time job. This transition was challenging, as it required me to wear multiple hats and juggle responsibilities. However, it was a necessary step towards creating a brand that embodied my passion and vision.

Through resilience, determination, and the wisdom gained from my previous career, I successfully managed this pivot. Dreamy Vegan became not only a source of stability for me but also a way to share the joy of delicious treats with others.

This journey reflects my commitment to never allowing adversities to become excuses but instead using them as stepping stones toward achieving my dreams. It’s a testament to the resilience that drives me in both my career and my pursuit of crafting dreamy delights for Dreamy Vegan.
