We recently connected with Tanira Smalls and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tanira, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
The idea process for me was a bit more challenging than you may think starting off. The research part had to be carefully executed because it was not just about what ingredient(s) I used, I also had to do research on the grade of the ingredients and how they work together because that is a HUGE contributing factor to how good your products will work. This especially applies to my skincare products. Once researching the essential oils, their properties and grades I began to actually make samples and testers of each product and test them out for a period of 1-3 months. All of these things are done before even advertising new products. The next year of this process was definitely a trying time because there were definitely formulas that needed to be changed, tweaked and or improve but one I found the perfect blend that had the consistency I was working towards and served the purpose I intended. It was finally time to launch!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Tanira Smalls, owner and creator of Tagere Cosmetics. I started my business when I was 19 years old. At that time in my life I really wanted to find skincare products that were organic and 100% healthy for the skin without any unfavorable side effects. After a multitude of failed attempts on that mission I began researching different ingredients and created testers of skincare products such as face oils, body scrubs and etc. In this search I also learned my way around vegan lip glosses/ lip care and different types of make up as well. My whole mission is to provide my customers an organic line of skin care and make up that provides them the proper care and comfort they need with the glow, skin health, beauty and boldness they love. One of the main things that I pride myself on is taking time to create quality products for my customers. Treat your inner Goddess with Tagere is far more than a slogan, it’s a lifestyle and I want to provide the Goddesses with quality products that they will have long term benefits from using.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Authenticity has been my most effective strategy since launching my business. I have always been true to myself, my brand and my mission. I believe that is what attracts my customers. I pride myself on building connections with my customers by communicating with them and being transparent. I am always looking into the needs, wants, problems and desired solutions of customers and potential customers alike.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Pop up shops have most definitely been the best source. I’ve been doing vending events all throughout the summer and it adds a personal connection to me and my customers because they get to see the face behind the brand and really get the feel for who I am and what my brand is/represents.
