We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Taniah Scott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Taniah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe what it takes to be successful is that you have to be consistent and confident in all that you do. You have to be committed to whatever you’re trying to achieve. Most importantly, you have to be patient and trust the process.
Taniah , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Growing up, I’ve always had an interest in skincare and beauty. That interest became more intriguing as I got older and started following a skincare routine. During my teenage years, I suffered from acne and hyperpigmentation. No matter how many products I’ve used and bought, nothing was working for me. I begin to research on YouTube to try to learn more about my skin. That’s when I learned about what an esthetician was. During my last days of high school, I knew I wanted to go into an esthetics program. I looked into local programs near me and enrolled in the one suitable for me. While In my esthetics program, I was learning what I could because I wanted to heal my skin and do the same for others. After I graduated, my first job was at a waxing studio. During my time there, I knew I wanted to do more than just waxing. I decided to enhance my learning by taking different advanced courses. Months later, I was presented with an opportunity at a facial franchise, where I gained most of my experience. Now I currently specialize in corrective skincare on the face and body. I offer advanced facials, chemical peels, waxing, and body treatment services. I love what I do and treat every service like it’s the very first time. I listen to my client’s skin concerns and work with them to find a solution. I am most proud of being able to provide people with an overall great experience when they come to get serviced by me!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that consistent clientele doesn’t come overnight. I’ve learned that the key is to find your niche and what works best for you and your clientele. Once that is established, your clientele will find you. My parents always tell me “let your work speak for itself”. You have to take that leap of faith when building your brand. You’re going to experience a few bumpy roads, but overall when you’re doing something you love, it’s not a job-it’s a perk!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My best source of new clients is always referrals and networking. When you take the time to provide quality service to your clients and become acquainted with new people, referrals go a long way.
