We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tania S.. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tania below.
Tania, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? We’d love to hear the backstory the illustrates how you grew your brand.
A key factor that helped me scale my business was letting God in my finances and tithing! I also got a new website that allowed me to customize the contact form for potential customers. That has been very beneficial in helping me understand prospective clients’ needs before the phone consultation. A few months ago I registered my business on Google and sent it to all my clients from the past 13 years to leave a review about my service. It’s been helpful to get new clients to my website and show that I’m a trustworthy photographer.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m proud to say I’ve been a photographer for 13 years now. It wasn’t until recently that I realized my talent in photography is my gift from God to empower people to feel confident. I have a very bubbly personality that will instantly make you feel comfortable and melt away any nervousness or uncertainty you have during the shoot.
My photography journey began in high school. Classmates nicknamed me paparazzi, for always taking pictures of everyone and everything. During my freshman year of college, I purchased my first professional camera. Looking back it was a starter camera, but it paved the way for my business and passion to flourish. Over the years I have grown as an artist and had the opportunity to photograph Weddings, Celebrations, NBA games, Magazine Covers, DC Fashion Week, and Internationally for a Travel Agent.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of photography is the smile, laughter, and pure joy it brings to my client’s faces when I show them their images. Yes, I’m a photographer that will show you your images at the shoot lol.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The resilience in my story would be when I wanted to quit photography because everyone has a camera these days and the cell phone camera quality improved. I wanted to quit and sell all my equipment but clients kept booking me so I didn’t get a chance to sell my gear. I didn’t see the point of continuing to take pictures, but my perspective changed when I realized that my clients don’t book me because I have the latest camera or the coolest gear. (Sidenote: I currently shoot with a DSLR so I don’t have the latest gear.) My clients book me because of my energy, joy, and passion for my craft!
