Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tania Barton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tania, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
I definitely wish that I had started my business a lot sooner when I was younger. I was a lot more creative. It just came naturally now I feel like I have actually have to search my brain but it’s fun.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
When I was a little girl, I grew up seeing my mom cooking for a living she also baked as well and it was just something that was very prominent in my family on both sides not just my mom but that’s what sparked my interest in cooking and next thing I knew I couldn’t live without doing it. I started doing it here and there for friends and family in my 20s and then one day I was like there’s nothing else in this world that I can do for a living that’s going to make me happy and about three years ago just when Covid happened I decided that I was going to make it a business given I had lost my job and I did not want that to happen again
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Since becoming a business owner, one thing, I’ve definitely had to unlearn and that is when you become a business owner it does not mean that you automatically wins. I actually mean there’s a lot more struggle, you know we all have this idea that oh we’re going to start a business and I’m going to become a millionaire or rich overnight and no it don’t happen like that and that. I definitely had to unlearn.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Initially I used my tax money in 2020 and I went back out to work for a little bit something I didn’t want to do but in order the be a business woman and single mom at the same time I had to be humble through all my sacrifices, wants and needs
