We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tangela Crawford. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tangela below.
Tangela, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I was raised in a two parent home, a mother that stayed home and made sure we were greatly cared for while my daddy worked hard to meet every financial need. I always saw both my mother and father attend church, pray, praise God, read and study God’s word. They made sure we understood the importance of putting and keeping God in his proper place. Those principles and examples have truly kept me afloat in drowning waters. Whether business or personal, my relationship and love for God has sustained me.
Outside of teaching me about Christ my parents supported me in everything that I’ve ever done. From elementary school until the passing of my dad he was my #1 cheerleader. He made me feel like I could do ANYTHING! My mother cleaned my salon every week for 8 years straight. The way that showed up for me keeps me going, I’m forever grateful.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
During this journey I have experienced hardships and struggles professionally and personally that could have easily pushed me to throw in the towel but three things stand out to me the most
Covid hit out of the blue and turned my business upside down. There were so many uncertainties during this time. I watched several businesses close and didn’t know if little ole me would survive. I had to navigate through new rules, guidelines and protocols to one keep my business open and two keep myself, staff, clients and family safe and healthy
While adjusting to the new way of life I was grieving the loss of my number one fan. Imagine already being unsure of how things would turn out and losing the confidence your daddy provides. My salon was forced to close on a Tuesday and 4 days later I received the worst call of my life. There were so many days I cried at work while working on my clients feelings broken and lost. My daddy introduced me to God but this is the time I really had to practice what I was taught.
Now fast forward to today, I’m currently separated from my husband, father of my children, high school sweetheart and once upon a time “best friend “. This has and is a major adjustment for me and my family. Things look and feel a lot differently than they once did but I’m choosing to continue the course. I’m dedicated to trusting God going forward in my business and every area of my life. Remembering that ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD (Romans 8:28)

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I serviced my first client at the age of 14 and from that day until presently the most effective strategy has been word of mouth. Social media has been helpful and more recent years but my clients do an awesome job of spreading the word about my services and products. Shout out to my people! You all rock!
