We were lucky to catch up with Taneka Walker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Taneka , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I started The Scalp Boss to address the regrowth of hair issues so many Americans are faced with. Over 80 million Americans both men and women suffer from hair loss. Restoring confidence one strand at a time hits home for me. Taneka empathizes with her clients as she battles thinning edges and scarring from an accident. I understand how improving your inward feelings can impact how you feel on the inside and outside.” So, she wants to provide education and support to people who want to restore their confidence. I turned a life experience and my passion for healthcare into a business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
how you got into your industry / business / discipline?
It’s been quite a journey. I’ve always been the caregiver in my family, being the oldest of six. Nursing was a natural calling for me, and there was never a plan B. I find great joy in taking care of my patients and providing them with the knowledge to lead healthier lives. After five years in nursing, I decided to take it a step further and pursue a Master’s Degree in Nursing, becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2012. My personal journey with Alopecia was a significant turning point. Experiencing it firsthand, I decided to combine my passion for healthcare with my own struggles. The Scalp Boss was born out of this fusion, aiming to address the challenges of hair loss and provide solutions for others going through similar experiences.
My healthcare background is the foundation of everything I do at The Scalp Boss. I prioritize a holistic approach, combining medical knowledge with aesthetic solutions. It’s about not just addressing the physical aspects but also the emotional and psychological impact of hair loss. The goal is to restore not only hair but also confidence and well-being.
what type of products/services/creative works you provide?
The Scalp Boss specializes in hair restoration and aesthetics. Our primary focus is on hair growth treatments that utilize cutting-edge technologies. We offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments, which have shown great promise in stimulating hair growth. PEPfactor is another innovative approach we use to promote hair rejuvenation. Additionally, we provide Scalp Micro Pigmentation, a technique that helps create the appearance of fuller hair.
We believe in a holistic approach to well-being. In addition to hair restoration, we offer medical weight loss management services. This involves personalized plans and guidance to support individuals in achieving their weight loss goals in a medically supervised manner. On the aesthetics side, we provide services that enhance overall appearance and confidence.
what problems you solve for your clients?
At The Scalp Boss, we’re dedicated to solving a range of challenges that our clients may face. When it comes to hair restoration, one of the primary issues is the emotional and psychological impact of hair loss. We provide advanced treatments like Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), PEPfactor, and Scalp Micro Pigmentation to not only stimulate hair growth but also restore confidence and well-being.
In the realm of weight loss, the challenges often go beyond just physical health. Many individuals struggle with finding effective, sustainable methods to manage their weight. We address this by offering medical weight loss management services. Our personalized plans and guidance aim to help clients achieve their weight loss goals in a healthy and supported manner.
what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets The Scalp Boss apart is a combination of personal understanding and professional expertise. My own journey with the challenges of hair loss, specifically Alopecia, gives me a unique perspective. I’ve experienced the emotional impact firsthand, and that personal connection fuels our commitment to addressing not just the physical aspects but also the emotional well-being of our clients. It’s a driving force in everything we do. The empathy that comes from having walked a similar path allows us to connect with our clients on a deeper level. We understand the emotional toll that these challenges can take. This influences our approach to providing not just treatments but a supportive environment where clients feel heard, understood, and cared for throughout their journey.
What are you most proud of?
My years of service to the country are a source of immense pride for me. Serving as a veteran has instilled in me values of discipline, dedication, and resilience. It’s a foundation that shapes not only my personal character but also influences the way I approach my work at The Scalp Boss.
what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc?
I would want them to know that The Scalp Boss is not just a clinic; it’s a place where personal understanding meets professional expertise. The combination of my own experiences, dedication to cutting-edge technology, and a holistic approach sets us apart. What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Marketing and networking have been fundamental pillars in the growth of The Scalp Boss. In the realm of marketing, we’ve focused on reaching our audience through various channels, both online and offline. This includes creating a strong online presence through social media, a user-friendly website, and targeted digital campaigns. Additionally, traditional methods like word-of-mouth and local partnerships have proven effective in reaching a broader audience. Social media has been a game-changer for us.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Nursing, for me, is not just a profession; it’s a lifelong calling. The diversity within nursing is remarkable, offering a plethora of jobs, paths, and fields to explore. The impact it has not only on my professional life but also on my overall well-being makes it a choice I would make over and over again. The beauty of nursing lies in its versatility. I find immense fulfillment in the ability to impact lives in various ways. Whether it’s direct patient care, education, or even my current venture into aesthetics and hair restoration, each path allows me to make a difference. The constant learning and the diverse challenges keep me engaged and passionate about what I do.
