We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Taneisha Tucker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Taneisha below.
Taneisha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My name is Taneisha Tucker and I love celebrating women! I celebrate women because we are priceless and often selfless jewels that sometimes go unnoticed. I love to commemorate milestones and celebrate the joys and accomplishments of life. Sometimes, I am called to capture a special and very personal moment when a woman knows she will soon pass away.
Taneisha Tucker Photgraphy was born when someone died. . .
On April 08, 2011, I lost a dear friend to breast cancer. Latasha LaMikii Thrash was beautiful, young, and vibrant. She had a dry wit and infectious sense of humor. She was a mom and a professional who had everything to live for. I was her friend and also god-mom to her young daughter, Asia. When she became ill, she asked if I would love and care for her precious daughter in my home. For two years, while Tasha fought her battle, Asia lived with me.
When Tasha died, Asia’s father came to get her. I had only met him once and was devastated. When my husband, Al, saw my grief, he decided we would become entrepreneurs doing something I loved – taking pictures. He created a website and asked his friends if I could photograph them for free. In the summer of 2011, Photography With TK was born.
Since then, I have photographed thousands of people, hundreds of weddings, and traveled all over the United States. I have captured births, and milestone celebrations and photographed clients who knew their time on earth would soon end. Photography has become one of the things that sustains me.
On May 2, 2016, I changed the business name to Taneisha Tucker Photography and became an LLC offering excellent service to each client.
I miss Tasha like crazy but I am so blessed that Taneisha Tucker Photography exists. I’ve been in business for twelve years (first as a sole proprietorship, then as an LLC) and have enjoyed every moment. Photography is my passion and I am grateful for the opportunity to celebrate people, especially women.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi there! I am Taneisha Tucker and I love celebrating YOU!
I am a librarian turned photographer who empowers women to celebrate themselves through classy, vibrant, and artistic imagery. Based in Birmingham, AL, I love making memories on location using authentic settings and natural light. If you prefer a studio session, together we can make celebratory magic!
Over the last decade, I have captured life’s most precious moments for some beautiful and amazing people. From celebration sessions to weddings, to family portraits, photography allows me to commemorate cherished moments and celebrate the gift of life.
It’s about the experience.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of clients for me has been word of mouth. For years, I only shared my work on a single social media platform. Most people who heard about me, learned of my business because of the experience I offered a friend, family member, or coworker. I have received rave reviews from local celebrities, to the mom who just needed a photo at her child’s birthday party.
My tagline when I began the business was, “It’s about the experience.” It’s always about the type of experience clients have that causes them to trust me with this once-in-a-lifetime and treasured moment.
I now have a website and post to two platforms, but I still find that most people still ask friends and family if they know someone who can do what they need. Most of the time, I am the professional photographer who is sensitive to their needs and will work to give them what they need and want.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about being a creative who does photography is that I create memories that last beyond my lifetime.
For me, photography means that I have touched someone and made an impact on them in some way. When my work and passion become a source of joy for someone else, that is the ultimate reward.
