We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tandi Murphy-hall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tandi below.
Tandi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I would have definitely started way sooner!!! I’ve always been a singer- When I was younger, I sang in various church choirs, traveling choirs, school choirs & would even make & sell little tickets in the apartments that I lived at when I was in elementary school- For people to bring lawn chairs & watch me perform from my stairwell and/or balcony!!!
But I didn’t have enough self confidence & love when I was younger to follow my dreams of being in a band…
It wasn’t until I was in my 20’s that I got enough courage to try being in a band & then it took another decade before I had ANY confidence in what I was doing!
I’m 46 now & am just starting to do the things I’ve wanted to do since I can remember & I believe that if I would have started when I was a teenager, I’d be MUCH further on my path!
If I could go back & change anything, I wouldn’t have ever listened to the people that constantly told me I wasn’t good enough or I was “too” this or “too” that & I would have just done me!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m in the band, Triangle Fire.
I’ve been performing for over 20 years & have recently overcame several years where I was so sick, that I was fighting daily just to stay alive… Now I use the things I’ve learned on my journey & my passions in the band & work with the youth to give them a safe space… And in Triangle Fire, we strive to see positive change in individuals and the world… We’re completely DIY & self funded & are constantly on the road… We try to spread our message of love & acceptance & to advocate for equal rights & the awareness of: The LGBTQ++ community, environmental issues, mental health, depression, suicide, addiction, harm reduction, overdose reversal, the healthcare system- Along with MANY other imperative topics…

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that females should “be seen & not heard”…
As I was growing up, I was taught that I needed to “know my place” and stay quiet… The basic “old school way of things”… What the proper roles of a woman were, etc…
This was something that held me back- And STILL holds me back in a lot of areas in my life.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
That I have a platform to advocate for others & help show kids that it’s ok to be 10000% unapologetically themselves.
