We were lucky to catch up with Tanaya Farr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tanaya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I have worked on has been creating and writing our Bonaventure Cemetery Tour Experience at Junket/US Ghost Adventures. This particular cemetery has always meant a lot to me as my family is buried there. As I began to research the historical markers and stories of the many people that go are interred at Bonaventure, the project began to take on a different meaning entirely. I began to experience what makes Savannah people so unique and interesting. I felt the sorrow and struggle many Savannahians endured throughout the times. Writing a tour script for this location was very emotional and educational all at the same time. Savannah’s past became very alive for me . Through this experience I gained the opportunity to join the Historic Society of Bonaventure which has always been a future goal for me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I became a tour guide with US Ghost Adventures/Savannah Terrors in 2018. I decided to take the full plunge into the tourism arena and have never looked back. I have always had an interest in the history and architecture of Savannah, and being able to take tourists through the city, as well as cemeteries and show them this history is a dream come true. I feel that my tours give people an accurate portrayal of Savannah and also showcase the true lives of those who lived here before us. As a Savannah native I feel that that I provide the tourists with information on safety, interesting places to visit during their stay, as well as answering any questions they may have. I am most proud of being able to honor those who built this beautiful city and keep their efforts and stories alive. A tour with me is more of a person walk through historic Savannah.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I have always had the particular goal in mind to preserve and even restore on some occasions the history and historical locations of Savannah, Georgia. I feel that this is very important for the generations yet to come.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative to me is being able to have creative freedom and room to grow. The ability to not be boxed into limiting beliefs or rules is what makes it all worth while.
